Driving a forklift on cough syrup is so much fun though

OSHA Inspector - "Can I get your name again, real quick?"

Yep. All because Bart tried to resurrect Snowball I.

[-] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

My name's not "Real Quick..."

[-] bleistift2@feddit.de 26 points 1 year ago

I’m in the same category. I know it’s about cars, but I picture a forklift. What is it about forklifts that forces this association?

[-] Trebach@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Maybe the safety video Forklift Driver Klaus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psAWGv5O7Zs

Lots of fake gore in this so watch at your own risk.

Omg that video, my coworkers made me watch it when I first learned to use a forklift

This video is comedy gold, nice find

It might be that they are machinery that moves heavy things, so our brain makes the association with heavy machinery.

[-] BowtiesAreCool@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Forklifts are heavy themselves, even the small ones weight as much or more as a sedan and way up. It is quite literally heavy machinery.

[-] VegaLyrae@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago

Very car-brained to not consider a car heavy machinery.

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Man I thought I was orange-pilled but I'm definitely in the second category here. Always thought "heavy machinery" was like construction equipment.

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 year ago

My doctor always told me "Nothing more dangerous than a string trimmer"

I've had this conversation with more than one girlfriend, typically talking about the conflict between having a migraine, taking medication to not hurt and the boss wants her at work pronto (45 minute commute by car).

(I'm sick -- and infectious -- and too nauseous to walk without meds) + (boss wants me at my station) is also an expression that has seen action from time to time.

[-] bleistift2@feddit.de 18 points 1 year ago

Imagine going to work with a migraine.

Being surrounded by Americans online really makes me appreciate German employee protection laws.

Wait you don’t have to go to work sick in other countries?

[-] sergio@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

Wait until you find out about European minimum vacation day laws.

most self-aware driver

[-] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 year ago

As someone who operates heavy machinery for a living and takes medication that says to "use care" when operating machinery: it's basically a see how it affects you thing.

I drive my forklift like shit either way, so there's that.

[-] xxwarlorddarkdoomxx@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I always thought of an excavator lol

[-] biff@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

To be fair, a civic del sol is a step away from being a mountain bike with extra wheels and doors, so I recommend that it be exempted from the “heavy machinery” category.

Sure, if you’re comfortable lying under 1,100kg.

Assuming a mass of about 1100kg and a maximum speed of 53m/s, this car carries as much energy as an explosion of about 370 grams of TNT equivalent. This is nowhere near the energy a pedestrian would receive in a collision, but impressive nonetheless.

if you’re comfortable lying under 1,100kg.

I’ve sat under much more than that, but I was in a vehicle moving through a tunnel. The seats were comfortable enough.
