I got an email about support ending in October 2025; isn't this still extremely early? Aren't they usually about two or three versions of windows down the line before they end updates?

I don't want windows 11 (and no I don't want Linux either, knock it off); this is ridiculous.

There’s people who already commented how to avoid the update by changing to ltsc or just not doing it. But how will you get security updates?

There’s a company called 0patch that makes em. They don’t even need a restart to apply like the ms ones do. It’s ~$25 a year.

The alternative is to switch to a mac, which isn’t a bad choice tbh once you can tank the buy-in.

Security updates are a scam. I have never gotten a virus since I stopped using public library computers. You don't really need that shit.

I honestly can't tell if you're serious. Viruses aren't the only thing that can happen.

I still use windows 7 in my PC. Why does anybody care about support or updates? If anything those are annoying, it's better if they are gone.

The real problem is dx12 support. Because it's hard to run proton in 7. That's why I'm dual booting Linux.

I wouldn't say 10 years is too small of a support window, personally scared

While I left Windows a long time ago- I'm using Win 11 for work.

Once you get past the ad placement in the start menu, and HW barriers to installation it really isn't that bad. I've had fewer overall crashes than Win 10 so far, and compatibility has been OK.

In principal the advertising and the spying etc is really infuriating, but hey, that's where everything is headed anyway.

the ad placement in the start menu

Can’t tell if this is a joke or not

Not a joke, they would suggest apps in the start menu, essentially ads.

You don't want to see Candy Crush everytime you try to open Excel?
