Post memes, art, articles, questions, anything you'd like as long as it's about Latin America. Try to tag your posts with the language used, check the tags used above for reference (and don't forget to put some lime and salt to it).

Here's a handy resource to understand some of the many, many colloquialisms we like to use across the region.

On this day in 1959, U.S.-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista fled the country following the victory of Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement (M-26-7) at the Battle of Santa Clara, marking the successful conclusion of the Cuban Revolution.

The 26th of July Movement takes its name from the date of with a failed attack on the Moncada Barracks in 1953, however, the movement bearing this name was not formally organized until the attackers were released from prison in 1955. Public resistance continued sporadically until November 1956, when 80 members of the M-26-7 returned from exile.

Soon after landing on the island, a separate revolutionary group, the "Directorio Revoluncionari Estudiantil" (DRE), unsuccessfully attempted an attack on the Presidential Palace in Havana.

Throughout 1957, armed resistance from groups such as the DRE and M-26-7 would escalate. After a failed offensive by the government against rebels in the summer of 1958, the rebels launched a major counter-offensive.

On December 28th, 1958, after a fraudulent election in favor of Batista, revolutionary forces reached the city of Santa Clara. Seizing equipment from an armored train intended to transport government reinforcements, the rebels quickly captured the city, prompting Batista to panic and flee to the Dominican Republic with a personal fortune of more than $300 million.

In the following days, revolutionary forces entered Havana with no resistance, and Castro established a provisional government. The 26th of July Movement later reformed along Marxist–Leninist lines, becoming the Communist Party of Cuba in October 1965.

Batista later settled in fascist Spain, dying there in 1973 at the age of 72.

Katawa Shoujo is a bishoujo-style visual novel set in the fictional Yamaku High School for disabled children, located somewhere in modern Japan. Hisao Nakai, a normal boy living a normal life, has his life turned upside down when a congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school after a long hospitalization. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right. There are five main paths corresponding to the 5 main female characters, each path following the storyline pertaining to that character.

The story is told through the perspective of the main character, using a first person narrative. The game uses a traditional text and sprite-based visual novel model with an ADV text box.

This is fanmade modernized version of classic visual novel. It is ported by Fleeting Heartbeat Studios to Ren'Py 8, open sourced and de-obfuscated. It contains accessibility features, unavailable at the time of initial game release, Russian, French and Spanish localization out of the box, has useful function to enrich gaming experience.

Best screenplay is a funny award to give a movie. It’s going “I’m sure it sounded good on paper”

I slept like 15 hours last night. Had some amazing dreams. Isn't having nice dreams the worst? I mean, at least I feel like there's nothing actively unpleasant I have to experience daily (save for dread for what's to come), but contrasting how little happens in real life and how many nice things happen in dreams makes me want a lot more 15 hour sleep days. Also, one of my dreams involved being covered in a brain eating sludge, but I also got a house to myself in that dream and I hosted a social event so it's by far the most positive thing I've experienced in the last couple weeks. And it's the holidays FFS!

The sexism in star trek TOS while deplorable is at the same time kinda cute in an awful way, work with me here, in how it tried to be anti sexisr in the most sexist way. Like Kirk in Charlie X telling him he can't grab women's asses cause they're weaker than men and can't punch you out good for playing grab ass! The message is along the lines of 'women should be free to pursue their natural urge to find a husband and that husband can be anybody dammit!'. I think it just feels so naive and like boys who served in ww2 were genuinely trying to wrap their heads around dames and their non suppressed feelings. Despite being on screen more objectionable it has this attempt at being better but really sucking at it. I think more modern trek could stand thst kind of humility, where it kinda comes through that the writers probably aren't the ones on the cutting edge of social justice and writing as honest idiots. Good Sci fi comes from when you learn about your oder day metaphor as you write it
