c/CrappyCorrelations@lemm.ee: Crappy Correlations

This is a community just for some fun based on the spurious correlations website made by a university student. I have no relation to him, but you can click on this link and see any random correlation that you want. I'm going to post some of these for Lemmy people for awhile, until I get bored. https://www.tylervigen.com/spurious/random If you do actually follow the link you will see not only the graph but an ai generated explanation and an AI scholarly paper that supports these correlations. who knows what is going to happen when the AIs pickup these hundreds of scholarly papers and put them in their training data.

c/absoluteunit@sh.itjust.works: Absolute Units

Things that you’re in awe at the size of.

Absolute Unit: an Animal, Public Figure or Object who is larger than we should normally expect.

(unofficial clone of the subreddit, not affiliated with it)

RULES

  1. Title should be a continuation of "Absolute Unit" and must start with "of"
  • Ex: "of a squirrel"

(the o doesn't have to be capital)

  1. Absolute Units Only
  • Only Absolute Units are allowed.

    • No normal units, see all definitions here
  • Post absolute units, not actual units

    • Not measuring units. The absolute unit is completely different, so please be serious
  • No Photoshopped Units

    • Only real life absolute units are allowed. No art, cartoon, edited or video game units.
  1. Animals, Public Figures, Food, Large Items

    • No creepshots / No fat shaming pics allowed / No female bodybuilders

      • We're looking for animals mostly, but we also accept huge foods, statues and items. If you are submitting humans, only public figures are allowed and not only to showcase that they are fat - they must be also large in stature; no harassment, creep-shots, witch-hunts, or fat-shaming is allowed. Identify their name in the title. Female bodybuilders are expressly forbidden. Transphobic comments will result in a ban.
  2. NSFW is prohibited

    • No NSFW and NSFL content

      • This includes content that is sexual in nature, gory, anything unpalatable to the eyes.
    • Don't post pictures of private parts

      • Honestly, nobody comes here to see magnum dongs. Just don't.
    • Don't post pictures of shit

      • No one wants to see that. No dung, no dong.
  3. Follow your server's local rules, and some additional ones

    • No witch hunts.

    • Do not direct link any personal information or social media profiles.

    • No brigading to or from any other threads, whether on or off Lemmy.

    • There's no reason to be an unfriendly unit.

    • Excessively derogatory comments are not allowed.

    • Toxic behavior of any kind is banned.

    • Follow the server-wide rules on your server

c/notinteresting@sh.itjust.works: notinteresting (lemmy edition)

for things that are not interesting at all

unofficial clone of r/notinteresting

What does this mean?

it's not immediately obvious what the point of this community is, so here is an explanation of the intended content:

basically the point is to post something that, at face value, is not really interesting (uninteresting), but you sneak in a little detail that makes it more intriguing, but the point is to act like it’s nothing at all, while the people in the comments get weirded out trying to understand what’s going on or just meme about it

there are a few rules that follow along this premise:
  • The post should not be interesting

    • This rule is just for posts, not for comments.
  • No Racism and Hate speech

    • Racism, homophobia, and hate speech will be removed.
  • No NSFW content

    • NSFW content is allowed, as long as you put it under it's tag. But straight up porn, gore, and borderline NSFL will get removed, and the poster will get banned.
  • No Blank Images or really low effort posts

    • Posts that are just a solid color or REALLY low effort will be removed. An example of what counts as "really low effort" is only posting a picture of a bodypart.
  • No contextless selfies

    • No posts that are just a selfie with a random title. If you are doing something in the picture that's one thing, but just a selfie of you smiling at the camera and the title is "I had pizza for lunch" or anything like that, it will be removed.

Hope you enjoy this community, and have fun!

Welcome to Linux Beauty 🎉

In here you can share your Linux desktop looks and showoff your customized Linux distro. Feel free to post your desktop looks! No one here is a judge.

  • You can also ask for help from others to guide you or help you on how to customize your Linux distro looks.

🛠 Community Rules for !LinuxBeauty

  • Stay on topic: Only content related to making Linux look good. Themes, DE/WM setups, terminal aesthetics, icons, wallpapers, ricing tools — that’s what we’re here for.

  • If it's NSFW then tag NSFW: this includes explicit, sexual, or suggestive content, wallpapers, anime pinups, or anything borderline.

  • Linux only: This community is for Linux. No Windows/macOS setups. BSD is fine if it looks like a Linux setup and fits the vibe.

  • Be respectful: No toxicity, trolling, or bad online attitude. This is a place to appreciate, not tear people down.

  • No meme or joke posts: This isn’t the place for memes, jokes, or off-topic humor. Post them on !linuxmemes.

  • No AI-generated posts: All posts must be based on real setups or actual theming work. No fake screenshots or AI mockups unless clearly labeled and still related to Linux visuals.

  • English only: For clarity and accessibility, all posts and comments must be in English.

The purpose of this community is sort of a "work out your frustrations by letting it all out" where different leftist tendencies can vent their frustrations with one another and more assertively and directly challenge one another. Hostility is allowed, but any racist, fascist, or reactionary crap wont be tolerated, nor will explicit threats.

c/hobbydrama@lemmy.world: Hobby Drama

A community for the drama, big and small, in hobby groups.

RULES

  1. BE KIND. No bigotry, flaming, trolling, etc. Do not brigade (remember we are outside observers)!
  2. NO DOXXING. Do not post addresses, real names, etc of individuals. Exceptions are made for public figures (eg celebrities) and companies, but keep it relevant.
  3. 14 DAY RULE. When making a post drama should be concluded for at least 14 days to make sure it's fully concluded and give a complete scope to posts. The exception to this is the weekly Hobby Round Up megathread which this rule does not apply to.
  4. INCLUDE CONSEQUENCES. When posting include what the drama means for the community. "The state of the game is worse off and players are leaving" is better than "and everyone was mad the end".
  5. KEEP OUT BIAS. If you are one of the main participants in the drama don't post, this isn't a community for validation seeking. If you're a peripheral (eg you're in the hobby and have an opinion, but aren't the one the drama is about, leading a petition drive, etc) posting is fine. Strive to be objective in your write-up.
  6. NSFW. If a hobby or drama is NSFW mark the post as such.
  7. REPOSTS. Reposts should be clearly marked with [REPOST] in the title and a link to the original post at the top or bottom of the post. Posts that don't follow this rule will be warned and then removed if the requested changes aren't made.
  8. TITLE GUIDELINES. Titles should include the following tags as appropriate:
  • [REPOST] for reposts
  • [HISTORY] for drama that does not include hobbyists (eg industry drama such as the financial fallout of a game company's decisions)
  • [GENERAL HOBBY] music, apparel, video games, TV shows, knitting, social media group, etc
  • [SPECIFIC HOBBY] is an optional tag if you'd like to be more specific (eg Taylor Swift, Game of Thrones, Gucci, World of Warcraft, etc)

An example title would be: [Video Games][Old School Runescape] The hat scandal OR [Repost][History][Music] Fyre Festival controversies
