I was going to say, I bet there’s a game where you click recommended until you land on a video that is some kind of abhorrent conspiracy nonsense.

It is absolutely shortsighted self-righteousness, and it’s like, come on bro; you really gonna vote to end democracy because you’re not getting exactly what you want?? Completely abhorrent flex, but OK…

Glad to have you on the side of democracy!! Hopefully someday, will be able to disagree on policy with each other rather than having to vote simply to remain democratic and free. ;)

Folks out here replying to you that a vote for Biden doesn’t shift the Overton window left like it isn’t so far extreme to the right that ANY vote left of it – even if CENTER – isn’t significant. All one need do is compare our left and right to the UK’s left and right, and one should conclude that we have to start where the window is for us rather than lofty ideas where people think it should be.

Expecting the window to land squarely in the left without working towards it over time is unrealistic, that is until we push it out of the right’s playing field. Course, people just love letting perfection be the enemy of good.

Just our court system ruling for fascism, nothing to see here folks.

I mean, I’m no lawyer, but the idea that only the DOJ has standing when gerrymandering has an actual, tangible effect on individual voters seems absurd on its face.

Anybody else catch this opinion article The Hill posted the other day? Truly fucking incredible how Republicans will lie right to our faces about what their stances are on abortion.

First it was “states rights”, which was immediately followed by “time for a nationwide ban” after Dobbs.
When it actually came time for states rights on abortion, it was immediately followed by “we’re gonna do everything we can to stop this” when they lost on it.
Now they want to try to downplay what they really mean by “abortion restrictions” when everyone can plainly see their actions belie their words.
They really think we’re fucking dumb, don’t they?

There sure is a lot of shit out there that seems to expose kids to lead. If there were ever a conspiracy that I could believe almost immediately, it would be that hostile governments (or some other entity that benefits from poisoning our youth, I don’t know, I’m not a conspiracy scientist) are finding ways to put lead in all our products as a way to dumb us all down.

What do you mean? Who wouldn’t donate to the great George Santos, Lincoln’s vice president and the inventor of the airbag, potentially saving millions of lives??

This reminds me of my ex, who stated "I HATE Wikipedia" because "it looks dumb" when I mentioned it in passing.

She really earned that "ex" title...

Right, it was a quintessential FAFO situation there.

However, what now? We’re still staring down a shutdown very soon. I’d just like to know Hakeem’s got a plan, y’know?

In the screenshot I’ve included, you can see that the number of comments for the post is 20+. However, I only see 2 comments when I look at the post.

Is this just a byproduct of federation? I don’t think I’ve blocked any instances yet, but is it possible the comments are from instances blocked my lemmy.world? Also, I use Memmy on iOS; could that be the cause?

Appreciate any insight!

A neo-Nazi front group is demanding that New England secede and establish itself as a white nation. Decrying “enemies” that are “all around us” and vowing to defend racial “integrity,” the People’s Initiative of New England published a revolutionary manifesto on July 27 advocating “separation from the United States of America.”

A community near Hanford (if you've seen Oppenheimer, Hanford is the nuclear production complex that produced plutonium for the Manhattan Project) has voted to oust three school board members this week. Back in February of 2022, this trio of members voted to defy the mask mandate in effect in Washington State, throwing the school district into chaos and forcing the superintended to close all schools for two days.

What makes this kind of a big deal is that, while Washington State has been very blue for many years, this community is located in the much redder eastern side of the state, and votes consistently Republican each election. Now, school board elections are supposed to be non-partisan, but we all know how the Republican party has started endorsing candidates in these non-partisan elections, and the election where this trio was elected was no different.

As someone from this community, it often feels hopeless when the candidates I vote for lose by considerable margins. This particular election shows that there IS hope, given the right amount of motivation and turnout (this is a BIG turnout for a non-presidential election!). I'm proud of what this effort accomplished!
