I appeared on the Monero Talk podcast, to discuss the new Session bot software Simplified Privacy has been creating. This would allow for the uncensored distribution of content, even under the harshest conditions such as an outright Monero ban.

See the instance setup yourself, by sending a message on Session to the ID: “MoneroTalk”

One word, without quotes. You can download session at getsession.org. As well as the other instance we have setup, at "Simple"

It’s a very long podcast, but I start at 1 hour 17 minutes in, https://www.monerotalk.live/digital-privacy-w-simplified-privacy-monero-price-report-news-more-epi-152

And I see the posts here about Nostr, I’m a fan of that too. This compliments Nostr perfectly. As Nostr is weaker censorship, but easier to spread on the clearweb.

WireGuard and OpenVPN are two popular VPN protocols. Many flock to WireGuard because it’s faster, but are unaware that it’s less private than OpenVPN. VPN providers prefer WireGuard because it uses less resources on their end to achieve good results and so it saves them money.

To make it even more biased, most home routers lack the resources to handle OpenVPN without crippling speed, so the VPN router companies heavily push WireGuard in their interface setups and tech support. Because WireGuard is easier for the customer, VPN provider, router provider, and governments trying to do illegal surveillance on the population, it’s rarely discussed what the negatives of it even are.

In this episode, we take a closer look: https://video.simplifiedprivacy.com/wireguard/

GrapheneOS build for the Pixel 8 is out. This is not the final official version, but it’s making it’s way around their Matrix room, and they’re doing debugs. And we’re covering the Pixel 8 bugs/release as it unfolds in this article: https://simplifiedprivacy.com/graphenes-pixel-8-version-is-out/

Brand-new video that I’m in timed to cover the basics behind DeGoogled Phones: https://video.simplifiedprivacy.com/degoogledphonebasics/

Simplified Privacy is a “no-fiat” Monero phone supplier. Keep the economy circular, as we don’t spend the XMR you give us for fiat, if it is spent, it’s within the community.

If you buy a Pixel 8 from a fiat supplier, it ties the IMEI to your credit card, which connects to cell towers. This means government thugs watch your location like a pet dog with a “find me” collar.

Legal disclaimer: I do not support illegal activity, but instead disagree philosophically with this invasion of privacy.

Monero on Nostr (monero.town)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by ShadowRebel@monero.town to c/monero@monero.town

What is Nostr? Nostr is decentralized messaging system with the most prevalent current use case being a censorship resistant twitter. It currently has custodial bitcoin lighting payments built in.

Can Monero be added instead of bitcoin? Yes, Bitcoin lightning is completely separate from the message protocol. You absolutely can have a client for Monero tipping, that can communicate with non-monero clients. The bitcoiners would just not see the monero part.

Why care about Nostr? It’s a “self-custodial twitter”. Nostr lets you own your audience like Monero lets you own your money. This is important as governments crack down on free speech, and would allow for an open forum for monero to continue discussion during a ban. To say "why care about Nostr?" is like saying "Why care about free speech?"

Are Nostr DMs private? They can be if you use certain clients. This video goes over Nostr privacy & some basics: https://video.simplifiedprivacy.com/nostrprivacy/

What attempts have been made so far to put Monero on Nostr? There’s been multiple funding attempts including one with Cake Wallet, but it’s not gained that much attention. Mostly due to Monero people being so insane angry about the Bitcoin Maxis that are on Nostr, however we need to separate the technology from the people talking on that technology. To say "Forget Nostr because Bitcoin Maxis use it" is like saying "Forget Monero because criminals use it"

Why is Nostr better than mastodon? Mastodon ties identity to DNS server IP addresses. IP addresses are tied to physical locations which the basis for government control via violence. While as Nostr ties identity to public keys beyond tyranny's grasp. Also on Mastodon, groups have de-federation lists, which is coordinated censorship.

What do you want from me? I’m not asking for money, the Nostr Monero client will get funded if there’s active community on it. I’m asking for you to make a Nostr account and have fun. Here’s a list of some XMR heads on the platform you can check out:

Up until now, I have been doing privacy videos with just my voice. Now after viewers refused to connect even a $0 Ethereum wallet because of a complete lack of trust in an anonymous shadowy figure, I have come forward to sacrifice my anonymity to advocate for and spread adoption of decentralized social media that is more resistant to censorship.

Yes the website is not fully decentralized yet. Yes MetaMask has privacy issues. But if you evaluate the technology we’re presenting, you'll understand why it's better than Google’s Youtube.

Before you curse this out as a scam without even understanding what it is, check out this video where I explain “encryption as identity” and how the Ethereum-powered video website works: https://vid.simplifiedprivacy.com/news/0x81ad645949cb936067f2f90f022e00a45cc75377b16eed0427e9e98c685951d4730bd09ba4f1fb4761d43281db2a8febe7017e304f1626d4bbba163c4a379cba1b

Why is this relevant to Monero? Because my videos will be a bunch of Monero wallet tutorials.

It's becoming more and more popular for websites (including Google & others) to demand you SMS text verify to use the service. This can be a huge drag on privacy. This article goes over a few services you can pay some tiny amount of cryptocurrency to get a burner SMS text number just for this purpose, including tips on which ones to use for which service:

Ah ok, that was meant for someone who wants to setup OpenVPN on a VPS that they can SSH into. But this person does not want to do the work. So the company can provide the service of setting up what you like on a VPS

We are recommending VPNs in general, but are not "hawking" or selling a specific one.

Second, we did not say a VPN hides against cookies. Cookies can easily be erased in the browser. This article is discussing browser fingerprints, which neither a VPN nor cookies deal with. Your reading comprehension is shockingly low.

You can not use Facebook with JS disabled. uBlock Origin is an option to reduce facebook off the platform. Running a VM is an effective strategy for isolation of certain sites. No solution is perfect, nor is it for everyone.

[-] ShadowRebel@monero.town 1 points 1 year ago

You are correct that facial recognition and any data put into facebook would still be tracked regardless of the steps you took. You're also correct that your friends and still leak info about you. However, I strongly disagree with your criticism regarding VPNs and VMs. A VPN is something you should be doing anyway, this is not really news to anyone here. And regarding VMs, the article does not say it's for everyone, only those with a high threat model that want to use facebook anyway. It is not true that if you browse in a KVM machine with a given fingerprint, that it would lead back to browsing outside it. You are correct that a VM is a lot of effort for most people, and in fact, the majority will not choose this route. But this is educational material for those who ARE interested, this is what some choices are.
