I think most snap haters mostly hate, that Canonical forces snap upon them, an wouldn't hate so much about it if they had the choice.

Mindflayers are definitly evil (from humanoid perstective) because of their species. They eat and bread brains. And they are interesting.

I think it is still fun. Just a different kind of fun. It shifts to a taktical game with lots of interesting strategic discussions instead of an exploration game.
