I think they kinda hinted last year they’d tone down the courts a little. I think some worked really well and others were a bit head scratching so hopefully they do tweak them a bit.

I agree on the LED court! Think it’d be cool to include more effects like you said.

Can’t remember if it was just an alternative broadcast thing from another game or even just a demo but they showed a green/red effect around the shooter depending on their shooting %s at different spots as they dribble around the court and wished I’d seen that more since.

Gutzon Borglum was the sculptor and was involved with the KKK. He was chosen because he was the sculptor of the "Shrine to the Confederacy” which was the inspiration for Mount Rushmore.

Guess it shouldn’t be too surprising given the way the land was taken from the local tribes despite it being sacred.

Credit to this comment by u/alcoholicorn that drove me to look it up.

I switched to reusable shopping bags along with the rest of Colorado when they enacted a ban this year and honestly prefer them now. Once you get in the habit of bringing them to stores it’s easy.

Edit: The US presidential election is not based on popular vote so if you live outside of the ~5-6 swing states that decide the election you can go ahead and vote for a candidate that fits your beliefs even if it’s 3rd party (shoutout PSL), there’s no argument not to. Continuing to vote for the lesser evil when it’s not needed just means they can take your vote for granted.

Make sure to pay attention to local/state elections too, those who often affect your life even more. As always voting is only a small part in how we affect change, find local organizations and agitate for change that way.

Between this and his game against Serbia he definitely showed he still has it

I agree! I think he takes DPOY this year and Spurs may sneak into the play in/playoffs

Some of these are a bit of a reach but thought it was an interesting article.

With the Olympics on I wondered how much one would sell for given a lot of these events don’t have a lot of options of making a living unfortunately.

The article is from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics so pricing might not be exact but:

At today’s prices that means the gold medal would be worth around $800 if you melted it down, while the silver would be worth about $450 and the bronze around $5.

That’s just the worth of the metals, the fact that it’s an Olympic medal means it’ll sell more but it varies a lot based on the year and event which make sense.

Earlier this month a winner’s medal from the 1896 Athens Olympics sold for $180,000 at auction, Cuban shooter Leuris Pupo’s gold medal from the London 2012 Olympics fetched $73,200, and his compatriot Iván Pedroso’s long jump gold medal from Sydney 2000 went for $71,335. All three were sold by Boston-based RR Auction.

Wondering if you’re even allowed to purchase any of them or if they’re just considered public land. Although IIRC Sweden has laws that allow fair use of lands for camping and stuff for short periods of time as long as your not near someone’s house or farm.

I’ve heard this story a few times and supposedly it happened over a weekend but yeah either the guy was a very good card counter and played a ton or recklessly bet it on roulette and got insanely lucky if this is true.

No shame there’s a lot of good candidates honestly and Shai would be my (very close) 2nd pick!

MVP: Luka

DPOY: Wemby

MIP: Wemby (feels weird to say given he was ROY and 2nd in DPOY but think he gets it)

COTY: Dagneault (Thunder Coach) Repeat

Darkhorse Candidate: Pop - if Spurs make playoffs I could see him getting it if no other candidate stands out. Partially due to legacy

6MOY: Malik Monk (has anyone won this b2b? kinda basing it off that)

WCF Winner: Nuggets

ECF Winner: Celtics

Champion: Nuggets (Source: Copium)

I think you’re likely right on them losing KCP though, they need to hit on most of:

  • Braun stepping up a level consistently
  • MPJ to improve more, I give him a bit of a pass on the cold shooting this year given the situations with his brothers
  • Watson developing some offense so he’s more playable
  • Westbrook sticking to his role and not trying to do too much
  • One of the young guys to step up and be solid for some bench minutes

I could see 1 or 2 of these happening but they need like 3-4 to win along with Murray playing like their winning season since the margin of error is so slim without KCP and how good the Celtics are.

Thankfully I think you’ll just need to wait 1 more year since I think he gets traded next offseason since the Jazz are rebuilding so his timeline doesn’t line up.

It definitely would be to a team that’s at the very least a play in team trying to make a more solid push since any other rebuilding teams wouldn’t give up the assets.

The Jazz can't trade Markkanen for six months after re-signing him thanks to the collective bargaining agreement. If he had signed on Tuesday, Utah could've moved him on the day of the 2025 trade deadline (Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. ET). Doing so from Wednesday means he's locked in for the entire 2024-25 season.

Sounds like they’ll follow through with his contract so he’ll stay.

If they don’t end up successful in suing the NBA for the Amazon package he’ll be on covering other things.

The deal will come via a renegotiation-and-extend, using the Jazz’s $33 million of open salary-cap space. League sources said Markkanen’s deal is projected to be worth upwards of $200 million over five years.

For Markkanen and Utah, this is a landscape-altering deal, keeping him off the trade market for a full season and out of 2025 free agency where he currently would have been the No. 1 available player.

The Jazz held Markkanen trade conversations with several serious suitors over the last month, including the San Antonio SpursSacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors. The Warriors made the most aggressive offer, centered around Moses Moody, multiple first-round picks, pick swaps and second-rounders, team sources from both sides said. Utah wanted Brandin Podziemski in any theoretical deal. The Warriors were protective of Podziemski in the Markkanen conversation and a few other leaguewide trade proposals this summer, league sources said.

The NBA has had discussions about starting its own basketball league in Europe. Commissioner Adam Silver told the Associated Press on Friday that the NBA is considering its next move on the continent and is weighing whether to start an annual tournament or league.

It is not yet clear how far along the NBA is in its planning. Silver said that the NBA is not in a place where it will “transform a league structure in the short term.” But talks about a league have gone far enough that it has recently been a topic of discussion in European basketball circles. The league has been working with financial firm, The Raine Group, to explore its opportunities in Europe.
