Naah I like the wide spaces on the left and right. It looks too cluttered otherwise with unnecessary information

Funny comic.

On a serious note though - AI is advanced means of production. All of it might not be 100% production ready today, but it's getting there soon. Our goal must be to seize this means of production (make AI companies publicly owned with a consumer cooperative operational model). Denying its existence only serves the interests of the bourgeoisie, as it makes us unprepared when it actually starts replacing jobs en masse.

Mediums of information delivery change with time. Just because someone doesn't read much doesn't mean that they are idiots.

Unmarried couples in a live-in relationship must register it with the government within 30 days of moving in together. The registrar reviews the application and may ask for additional information during an investigation. If approved, the relationship is recorded in a register and a certificate issued. Refusal to register may occur if one partner is married, a minor, or if consent was obtained through coercion or fraud. Partners can end the relationship by notifying the registrar and their partner. Failing to register the relationship or providing false information can result in fines, up to 3 months of imprisonment, or both.

TLDR: Watching Not Just Bike and other urbanist YouTube videos alone isn't going to do anything. We actually need to advocate for this in our local communities and city councils to get stuff done.

I came across David Sinclair and his research into reverse aging. Especially, I came across this video by Veritasium with Sinclair. Apparently his team has managed to reverse aging in mice in a lab? Has this been peer reviewed?

I personally want to believe Sinclair, but he just.... seems snake oil salesman-ey for some reason. For one, the channels that he seems to come on are the same channels that host manosphere/pseudoscience/conspiracy related guests. Secondly, he talks a lot of shit about his fellow scientists and just seems a little egoistic? I dunno...

Also, the recommendations that he seems to give (like reducing protein intake) to slow aging just seem to be against conventional wisdom? Also, for the drugs that he recommends taking, wouldn't the FDA approve them if they actually worked? I dunno. This isn't how a man of science behaves, right?

Anyway, aside from Sinclair, how far have we gotten in the reverse aging/stopping aging or whatever science? Should we hope to get drugs/treatment to cure this in the next 10/30/50 years?

So I’m developing a mobile client using React Native, where I’m utilizing Lemmy’s messaging functionality as well. This makes it extremely crucial to have notification support (including push notifications).

How are you guys dealing with this problem? This is what I think an elegant solution could look like. We would need to achieve two things:

  1. Bring back websockets only for notifications by directly changing lemmy server side code.
  2. Find where the email notification code is at, and simply implement expo notifications there.

Whaddya think?

I was SOOOO WAITING for the Fediverse name drop considering how MUCH they were implying this at the end of the video.

Australia won the final match of the 2023 Men's Cricket World Cup against India by 6 wickets. The match was played in Ahmedabad, India at the Narendra Modi Stadium. This final win makes it the 6th time that Australia wins the Men's Cricket World Cup. This match also ended up being the first match that India lost in this tournament.

(Reposted in this community cuz I didn't get any responses in the original community that I posted this under)

This is how I understand the communist utopia: Workers seize means of production. Means of production thus, start working for the proletariat masses rather than the bourgeoisie class. Thus, technological progress stops being stifled and flourishes. Humanity achieves a post scarcity-like environment for most goods and services. Thus, money becomes irrelevant at a personal level.

In all this, I can’t see how we stop needing a state. How can we build bridges without a body capable of large scale organisation? How would we have a space program without a state for example? I clearly have gotten many things wrong here. However, I’m unable to find what I’ve gotten wrong on my own. Plz help <3

Edit: Okay, got a very clear and sensible answer from @Aidinthel@reddthat.com. Unfortunately, I don't know how to link their comment. Hence, here is what they said:

Depends on how you define “state”. IIRC, Marx drew a distinction between “state” and “government”, where the former is all the coercive institutions (cops, prisons, courts, etc). In this framework, you need a “government” to do the things you refer to, but participation in that government’s activities should be voluntary, without the threat of armed government agents showing up at your door if you don’t comply.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national secretary Tejinder Pall Singh Bagga on Monday made a sensational claim, saying killed Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gay and that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used to like him.

His statement comes amid a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada that ensued after Trudeau alleged the Indian government was involved in Nijjar's killing. India has asked Canada to provide proof to back the allegations but none have come yet.
