Is that simply a reference to it going over budget? I never got that joke.

That's not how IMDb rating works. It's just an aggregate based on the number of users voting on it. It's basically useless at distinguishing a stinker from a watchable weeknight movie from a masterpiece. Rotten Tomatoes attempts to address this imbalance with a weighted scheme, which usually works better for well-known movies.

Same, not for Taxi Driver, but for The Deer Hunter, Chinatown, Life is Beautiful, Amour...

Art is subjective (and most people are philistines)

Chinese characters. Presumably they're not Chinese, Japanese or Korean.

They're generally called vinegar flies, and they don't infest fresh fruit like fruit flies do when they lay their eggs in fruit.

Pardon my ignorance - what's 'play with my nuts' a reference to for Carter, aside from his gonads?

But David Spade looks like him. I know what you mean about Martin Short's vivacity though, he'd be a fine Wonka, whose idea was it to cast Chalamet

You sound like you know what you're talking about, and convey it with spectrum-like precision. I throw my hat and my heart entirely to making your dream come true. Hoo, hoo (hoo-oo-hoo)

*counsel you. I'm picturing a police officer comforting a suspect who's sobbing with a hand on their shoulder haha.

Nah I think it means 'chuck your stuff in a sack and get out of here'. Sac(k) to refer to balls is probably also a very old usage from French but since it's vulgar it likely didn't become the colloquialism meaning to be removed from one's job. It is a funny homonym though.
