The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin is the one that came to mind for me.

Agreed. The life of a phone includes multiple cables (unless someone here knows some trick I don't), so including OEM hardware that's tested and recommended for the device is great and I wish it were still standard. Phone manufacturers not including parts that they still sell separately seems to have little to do with environmentalism/conservation and much to do with profits.

They do this almost every year. It's not even really a threat, anymore, just an expectation.

Vance is dumb* to come out and say it out loud because it makes him an easy possible scapegoat for the inevitable fury that a shutdown fight causes.

*Shocking, I know.

Yeah, this type of "reporting" is infuriating to me. Claiming the election is in the bag is just a shitty attempt to depress voter turnout.

I won't trust that Trump has lost this election until Harris is sworn in as POTUS.

And lo, Lemmy's next meme of the week was born

My condolences to your liver

The Princess Bride is one of my favorite examples of this, especially because the "story within the story" is the main story, which is unusual.

For you, I'll allow humane. For Leon...I don't know if I care to do quality control. Maybe I'll let him do it himself.

I agree, but I'm glad that some big news outlets are reporting it this way. Less not-so-subtle sane-washing and acceptance of Trump, more making him look like the weak weirdo he is.

This is super weird, but I've also been having a couple of other bizarre issues today (different device), so I'm going to assume it's something on my end. Thank you for sharing, and for checking! ☺️

Really? I got a paywall when I opened it.

No paywall

Anti-abortion groups had tried to block the measure by arguing that proponents of the ballot measure had failed to meet constitutional requirements that the people who sign ballot-measure petitions be fully informed of the proposal’s legal ramifications.

I expect their argument would be that people can never be "fully" "informed" unless they decide abortion should be banned. What twatffles.

What are some (non-English) idioms, and what do they mean (both literally and in context)? Odd ones, your favorite ones - any and all are welcome. :)

For example, in English I might call someone a "good egg," meaning they're a nice person. Or, if it's raining heavily, I might say "it's raining cats and dogs."

I'm upgrading because my phone is losing (lost?) support. I use a OnePlus 7 Pro and love it and wouldn't bother upgrading otherwise. I'd appreciate some recommendations of android phones you like, please.

Thank you in advance! (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
