It’s enough of a problem for Ukraine that they decriminalized desertion if it’s a first offense, which suggests it’s a big enough issue that they can’t simply arrest people for desertion without wrecking their army and instead are incentivizing returning to their unit.

It also suggests that 100k might have gone AWOL but at least some large fraction of that 100k later return to their unit to avoid criminal sanctions.

We are planning to restore deference by raiding lemmy.world/c/hasbara at a point of our choosing (probably in 2 months after you’ve kind of started forgetting about this)

Zionism is antisemitism.

The desire to expel Jewish people from Europe.

Zionism is antisemitic. Jewish people are Europeans. It’s an ethnic group with roughly 80% European, mostly German and Slavic, ancestry. Rejecting them as Europeans, excluding them from “whiteness” on the basis of religion and tradition, and wanting to expel them from “the west” where they “don’t belong”, absolutely is antisemitic.

Maybe you can suck my dick. The UNRWA is a humanitarian organization and the most humanitarian thing to do would be to support Hamas and the liberation of Palestine but unfortunately it seems they were just feeding kids.

Probably the UN just wouldn’t exist. The first time a major power wanted to do something the general assembly didn’t want, the major power would have done it anyway and the UN ceases.

The veto power is a recognition of reality. Actually you cannot stop a great power from doing what it wants except via a great war with another great power. If this fact of reality is acknowledged and made part of the process, then at least the General Assembly can voice their objections and deny legitimacy via protest without destroying the entire edifice.

The mistake was really to have no mechanism to remove someone from the security council. The fact that India and Brazil aren’t there while the UK and France both get seats is silly, and including France as one of the “victors of WW2” is also silly.
