That's wonderful! Whereabouts are you traveling, if you don't mind me asking? I was mostly in the north around Trujillo, but I spent a couple weeks in Lima once, and a month in and around Cusco when I made the trek to Aguas Calientes, then Machu Picchu.

I've been itching to get back to Perú ever since!

I lived in Perú for a while on a study abroad/student exchange program and can confirm -- you can't swing a cat in Perú without hitting some archeological wonder, and it's not just Lima. I spent some time in the northern deserts, up near Chiclayo and Lambayeque, and visited so many fantastic Moche sites that they almost started to get boring by the end.

What stuck with me the most, however, as walking through the sand dunes and literally tripping over ancient pottery that was just sitting in the sand, partially exposed. Ceramics were everywhere, and it was otherwise untouched but also unprotected. Absolutely blew my mind as an American to whom anything older than 200 years feels ancient and rare.

Wonderful country, Perú. I highly recommend a visit to anyone who has the opportunity to go. There's so much more than Machu Picchu (although that site is a stunning must-see, ofc).

Honest question from someone ignorant on this topic -- what do you recommend for a search engine other than Google?

After we named him Schrödinger we quickly realized that orange cats have one braincell and there's no way this cat has object permanence, let alone understands quantum superposition.

Orange Boy's favorite activities include sleeping, napping, light napping, yelling for cat food, yelling for cat snacks, getting REAL high off the fresh catnip I grow outside, getting the munchies, then yelling for cat snacks, jealously guarding his sleeping basket from his younger brother, and napping with one leg hanging off the edge of the bed because he likes live dangerously.

Need I mention he's missing some teeth so sometimes he has a Clint Eastwood style snarl?

[-] nineninenine@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Sometimes I wish my Orange would do this. He doesn't accept a lack of attention; just fundamentally refuses it. No, no. He creates the attention he desires by yelling at me and waving his silly little ginger paw in my face (I once taught him how to high five and now that's his protocol for getting what he wants). And I'm a fucking simp for this ridiculous orange so it works and I carry him around like a baby, just like he wants.

Their tadpoles are low key kinda adorable, ngl.

[-] nineninenine@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

What do you think so far? I've been loving Strange New Worlds!

[-] nineninenine@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I'm imagining Fry refusing a vaccine for egg salad sandwich parasite infections et violà, Parasites Regained.

[-] nineninenine@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Oh, that's a good point. I love all the Mars-related episodes, especially with Amy's family and the native Martians. Hopefully How the West Was Won gives us some good new Martian content!

[-] nineninenine@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Came back to this thread to say I LOVE Strange New Worlds so far! I liked Picard well enough, but just couldn't get into Discovery after a couple tries, though I can't articulate why (???). SNW seems to hit just right.

Listen, you! I was born here. I raised a cloud of children here. My ancestors came over here on the sandwich!

I know it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite Futurama episode, but if you held a ray gun to my head and I HAD to choose it would be Parasites Lost. When I saw "Parasites Regained" in the episode title list for season 11 the hype for new Futurama finally hit me!

So which episode are you most anticipating? Wild speculation about the episodes welcome.

Edited: to add a shameless plug for the Community I just created for another great Groening show, Disenchantment. If you're a fan of Bean and the gang come on over to /c/Disenchantment!

[-] nineninenine@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Today was my first day on the Fediverse via Lemmy.world, and I was so happy to see a Futurama Community among the top posts right when I logged in!

I hope it's also okay to say that I just created /c/Disenchantment for my fellow fans of a slightly related show. 😄

Any Futurama fans that also like Disenchantment and our one true Queen Bean please come join!

Not OP but you just convinced me to give Strange New Worlds a try, so thanks!
