An astute observation for a dumbass.

Is the statement that the dog is chicken?

GRIP Combat Racing. It's one of those racing games where you have to restart a lot, because recovering from a mistake isn't really an option, but it's still super fun.

Yes, I am and before you ask: no, I will not help you fix your grandma's PC.

reeSilva is correct, but for the sake of everyone's sanity: AVOID LINKEDIN AT ALL COSTS. That's where all the self-important and out of touch people hang out and they're the absolute worst.

We still have about 6 years to go, but it's obviously going to be Gollum.

[–] onlooker@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

lol, that is so unnecessary.

I haven't read a whole lot, but so far: Madame Bovary. We had to read it in high school, because it was culturally significant and because it caused a large amount of controversy when it came out due to its subject matter. When I was reading it though, it felt like I was reading a literary version of every TV soap opera ever. It was a slog to get through and I was bored and annoyed throughout.

Hm, didn't know about that. By the way, what is the word that is showing up as removed?

So they are, statement withdrawn. I wasn't paying that much attention to the signs in the background and sure enough, the rightmost sign's M and R look a bit off and the "Investing in" part is completely scrambled.

Is it AI generated, though? AI generated images usually mangle letters pretty badly and everything seems to be legible here.

Seriously. Didn't they make billions last year? That number should be much, much higher for Zuck & Co. to actually start giving a fuck.

This is hilarious. Blizzard created Diablo Immortal with the express purpose of getting their foot into the Chinese market. Then some genius at Blizzard had the brilliant idea to make a post on Weibou (a social network in China) to make fun of Xi Jinping:

Welp, there goes that Tencent money. Couldn't have happened to a nicer company, too.

For me, they're more trouble than they're worth. For wanting to support your favorite artists, I'm rewarded with unskippable trailers and FBI warnings, and if you want to play Blurays on PC, well... Just take a look at this. Keydb files? BD+ decryption? What happened to just putting the stupid disc in the machine and hitting play?

With pirated movies and shows, I just double-click on a file and away I go. Why would I ever want to go back to Blurays?

There are so many options out there, it's kind of dizzying.

I'm looking for a cheap solution that I could hook up to a TV and ethernet, so it could run a flavor of Linux (or BSD) and play videos at 1080p. Bonus points if it can handle 1080p@60 FPS. Other than that, it would be used for light web browsing.

I was looking at Raspberry Pi 4, but is there anything else you would suggest?

(Not mine, but I remember hearing it somewhere)

I'm just screwing around with the OS, but I have to say, I'm a bit perplexed.

I wanted to install GIMP and LibreOffice, so I clicked on the AppCenter only to find out it couldn't find either of them. Which is bizzarre, because I can install both using apt just fine. As it turns out, the AppCenter only has 51 curated applications, completely ignoring the abundance of programs already available in the Ubuntu repositories, making the AppCenter a bit useless.

Then there's the desktop. I'm not entirely sure why I'm not allowed to have icons on it. macOS has desktop icons. As does Windows. Hell, almost every OS with a GUI does. Apparently, there's something called Elementary Tweaks which lets you enable them, but why would anyone have to jump through hoops to enable this basic functionality?

I guess I just don't understand who this OS is meant for.

I'll be honest, this is as much a question as it is a vent.

Specifically, how do you deal with people you meet everyday like family, coworkers, etc. who just revel in conspiracy theories?

I have a coworker who is dead certain 5G somehow produces the coronavirus, despite easily verifiable facts in microbiology and physics showing otherwise. He's a nice guy in general with a degree in electronics, but dear lord, when he starts with this tin-foil hat bullshit it ruins my day.
