The difference is that Reddit is either actively pushing or is being pressured to push the ruling class' narrative that killing a CEO is bad. No one here is saying that, they have issues with the shooter because of who he allegedly is, not what he did.

As usual the mods made a unilateral decision without consulting the userbase, with vague criteria as to what will result in a ban(seems almost arbitrary based on individual mods from a scan of the log)

Obviously I'm not comparing the admin and mods here to reddit ones, I appreciate their labour in making my leftist shitposting site run smoothly and proactively crack down on bigotry, but honestly I don't think the phrase 'power tripping' is outside the realm of this conversation

This is nominally supposed to be leftist shitpositing site run with at least some democratic participation from the userbase, but time and time again the discorderati play at 'vanguard party' leading to long term users(obviously talking about those without chudy post histories) leaving and growth dyeing and struggle session that just sow animosity with rarely an actual improvement in site culture

I'm not sure which moderators and user base you're talking about.

hexbear's, didn't realise you were from another instance soz

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

The effect is the same. Mods make vague threats and people are afraid to talk about the subject.

Driving the moderator behaviour here is the fear of being sued whilst operating a social media platform, which is the risk you run when you host an instance in the fediverse.

If that's the case, then the moderators should communicate that instead of keeping reasoning hidden from the public

They're from another instance, AFAIK our mods don't care about that aspect, and only care about limiting critical support for possible fascists.
