margaret cho said it best of those who say to separate the creator from the work while pantomiming dancing to the pop music created by the largest vulnerable minority in my country: i love your music, but please don't drink from that fountain. (paraphrasing since i don't remember the exact words used)
for those outside the united states who don't understand the reference: black people in the united states were not allowed to drink from the same drinking fountain that white people were allowed to use and black people are the ones who created the music genres that today's pop music are derived from. margaret cho was identifying the inherent contradictions in picking and choosing from another culture while simultaneously subjecting them to make her joke.
So argument is, playing “separate the art from artist” is functionally the same as dancing to music made by people you wouldn’t accept in your neighborhood? Rather than grapple with the contradictions, just pretend they don’t exist?
maybe; you'll have to ask margaret cho to get that answer
Lol you brought it up! At least defend YOUR interpretation of the quote
i made it clear; if there's a question for me, then you need to clarify since it's not clear from your response.
they had two clear questions in their comment
IC. They sound rhetorical to me since they're both the same things I said
