example of the lands lost due to the dawes act

The Dawes Act of 1887 was a post-Indian Wars law that illegally dissolved 90 million acres of Native lands from 1887 to 1934. Signed into law by President Grover Cleveland on February 8, 1887, the Dawes Act expedited the cultural genocide of Native Americans. The negative effects of the Dawes Act on Indigenous tribes would result in the enactment of the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the so-called β€œIndian New Deal.”

It authorized the U.S. to divide indigenous tribal land into allotments for heads of families and individuals, leading to a loss of 2/3rds of land (~100 million acres) over the next 50 years.

The law converted traditional systems of land tenure into a state-imposed system of private property by forcing Native Americans to "assume a capitalist and proprietary relationship with property" that did not previously exist in their cultures, according to historian Kent Blansett. The act declared remaining lands after allotment as "surplus" and available for sale, including to non-Natives.

Between 1887 and 1934, indigenous people lost control of about 100 million acres of land, or about two-thirds of the land base they held in 1887, as a result of the act.

The loss of land and the break-up of traditional leadership of tribes had such devastating consequences that many scholars refer to the Dawes Act as one of the most destructive U.S. policies for indigenous people in history.

Any boardgame heads up? I just played a one that I thought was amazing.

Nawalli

It was a Kickstarter joint. I bought it off the site so I don't knownhow that went though. 8/10 on Boardgame geeks. Honestly like a 10 for me. The theme is delicious. It has beautiful art. Everything is based on aztec mythology and has cool cultural tidbits for flavor. The game is an amazing mix of tactical and card battling. I played it in a hookah cafe smoking tobacco. Which fits the theme well. If anyone wants I will gush about it. I am gonna go buy the expansion set next time I have money. It is probably on upper bound of complexity for games that could be popular. I am gonna check the discord and see about the community. I know this one won't blow up as much as it deserves.

Haven't been able to play any in like a decade cause I haven't known people who have wanted to in a while, but I love a few board games. Cosmic Encounter is my all time fave and I would fucking love to play it again, Diplomacy is another fave, way back there was an attempted Hexbear diplomacy game but half the people just stopped playing. I also really like Talisman, Robot Rally is a really fun quick casual game, I've played some Axis and Allies and really enjoyed it. There is also a Star Wars episode 1 strategy board game that rules. It's the ending battle for taboo and each side controls the 3 different things going on during that part simultaneously, so there's gungans vs druids large scale combat, padded and mcnulty getting to the throne room vs defending guards and Darth maul vs obi Wan and qui gon, best thing to come out of that movie.

That's super chill. I am.surpised there isn't a group of board game people you could visit near you. My city is very small but within a short drive there is a game shop that has weekly game nights. That is the curse of board game people. My buddy I visited is the real board game head and he always has trouble finding people to play with. This game was super crunchy so I got it just for the excuse to get into a rules have gave with him. I am just not as into board games normally. Which is unfortunate for me as in my experience board game nerds are some of the best nerds to associate with.

Like board games, don't get along well with most people who play em. I like nerd stuff but have a really hard time hanging out with nerds.

Reasonable. Last place I was my ex was a big part of the Warhammer scene. So small worlds can get awkward
