I once insinuated that I hated the smell of vapes and people downvoted me, saying "noooo but blueberry muffin flavour actually smells so goooood"

Yeah okay buddy, I think you're one of the ones I'd find wandering the streets vaping in front of everyone

Edit: to the people currently downvoting me, you guys do know vaping can also give you cancer and increases your risk of respiratory disease, right? And by vaping in front of other people you're forcing that risk on to them, right? Grow a little empathy

i really don't care what you put in your body of your own volition, whether legal or not. go for it, i'm not in a place to look down on you. but just don't make me breathe in your vape cloud. I smoke and I will only smoke in private or amongst people who smoke with me, or who have given me an explicit thumbs up to smoke near them. to do otherwise would be douchy.

I was with you until you tried to lecture people on what's bad for them or not. Yes people know. Lots of things are bad for you, they are adults.

Did you know science has proven that being on social media is bad for you?

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is true, but it's so much better than walking through cig smoke, or smelling that shit in someone's car, or the nightmare of walking into someone's house that has tar all over the walls and furniture because they smoke in the house.

I'll take mass replacement of cigs with vape any day.

It's better poison, but it's still poison -A former vaper...vapist?

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 4 points 21 hours ago

I would go with vaper. That other one sounds too much like that guy Brock Turner..

There is no direct evidence vaping causes cancer.

The main components of vape juice are polyene glycol and vegetable glycerin. Both of which are completely benign and added into many every day products. And before vaping nicotine was a thing, it has been used as a safe drug delivery method for decades.

To say there's no direct evidence is disingenuous. Yes, there are no peer reviewed articles that directly correlate vaping and cancer chance, but guess what there also isn't? Studies that say they're safe

The reason for this is simple: there's about a 14 year delay between any smoking changes and lung cancer presenting itself. Extrapolate that to three trials, and you're looking at minimum 50 years before it can hit shelves

What is known about vapes is that they contain many of the same carcinogens found in cigarettes, which should be a red flag to most people

Not true at all. Vapes don't contain any known carcinogens.

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

According to cancer.council.org.au

For example, propylene glycol and glycerine found in e-cigarettes when overheated can produce dangerous levels of the carcinogens formaldehyde and acetaldehyde.

There are people that are addicted to a drug the government will not regulate because they are taxing the shit out of the addicted. Grow a little empathy.

Especially for the vapers because they allready diminish the harm to them and others. The exoust fumes of the car beside you are many more times dangerous than the passive vape you could inhale.

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm specifically calling out people who downvoted me for saying I don't like the smell of vapes

I'm honestly with you, I think cigarette and vape sales should be criminalised, smokers are being taken advantage of both by the government and the smoko sellers

[–] amino@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

ah yes let's do a prohibition 2.0 because why not. especially when the fascists are in power

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This might be hard to believe, but I'm one of the dozens of people who don't live in the US

[–] amino@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

regardless of where you're from, criminalizing drug use leads to people dying. it's been a fucking disaster in any country it's been implemented

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Where did I ever say I wanted to criminalise drug use?

[–] amino@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

where are people gonna buy cigs if you ban them? the black market. who's gonna go to prison over it? marginalized people. this is already reality in authoritarian countries

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world -1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I said the sale of these items. Not the buying of. Very different prospects you're assuming I'm lumping into one here

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 1 points 33 minutes ago

If it's illegal to sell, how do you buy?

That's literally a prohibition.
