Sounds illegal.
Does whatever country this is posted from not have a minimum wage? Screenshot says USA, I thought they did have one?
Yes, but since volunteering is a thing, they may think they're in the clear. Doubt they are though.
Everytime I hear about the need to pay to do a job, my mind immediately jumps to pyramid scheme.
If you need to pay for something, it is a huge red flag.
