Pretty sure Canada and US players combined make up about ~70% of active NHL players, with Canada making up about 41% and the US roughly about 28%. Sweden looks to be in the number three spot with about 9%.

There would be more Russians in the NHL if it was easier to scout them and get them to the US/Canada.

yup, i was wrong. stats for totals rather than active are hard to find, annoyingly.

All good. I knew Canada made up a significant chunk of active players and dwarfed everyone else, and assumed US was a good percentage in the mix too. But didn't realize how extreme the numbers would be in Canadian and US favor.

But highest amount of NHL players per capita and suddenly the top three is Finland, Sweden and Canada, while USA falls way behind.

Even though it's the "Nation" in the "National Hockey League".
