I’m estranged from my family and have been for 10 years. I found out the police were trying to get a hold of me, but couldn’t because I am in Spain now.

Knowing his history and long term struggle with mental illness, it’s most likely suicide. I really, really hope it’s not something worse.

I tried calling the police department and they’re so, so fucking dumb.

Me: “Hi I’m calling in regards to a missing person’s case. I heard that the detective was trying to get a hold of me?”

Pig: Huh? Missing person’s case?

Me: Yeaaaaahhhh??? He went missing 2.5 months ago.

Pig: So are you reporting someone missing or are you asking about someone missing?

Me: ????????? I’m asking about someone missing [Brother Name]

Pig: Oh. Let me look. It up…. Yes SHE went missing.

Me: Huh? You mean HE.

Pig: Looks like they were found, can I do anything else for you?

Me: Uh, no, that’s great to hear. Thanks.

——- 5 minutes later ———

Pig: SOOOOO I was wrong she I mean he are still missing.

Me: OK? Sooo.

Pig: The detective will want to talk to you. I’ve sent this number to the detective. They will call you back.

——— 1 Hour Later ———

Sergeant Pig: This is Sergeant Pig, what do you want? (WOW, PROFESSIONAL.)

Me: I’m calling about my missing brother, he’s my sibling. I heard the detective was looking for me.

Him: Oh. Who is he again?

Me: [Brother Name]

Sergeant Pig: Oh yeah he’s still missing. Give me your e-mail and I’ll have the detective contact you.

Me: [Gives e-mail]

Sergeant Pig: [Doesn’t check spelling] OK I got it I will let the detective know and they’ll contact you. (Click)

I still haven’t heard back and I need to call again. Double bonus, I am AFAB and the local press referred to me as the “niece” who possibly kidnapped my brother. (Press was talking to my aunt) SUPER.

ACAB.

Anyway, feels like shit. Even if we hadn’t spoken in a long time because our mother is a monster. Part of me knew it would end like this, but it’s still shit. Don’t know how to feel. I’ve been vaping too much, but I’ve been avoiding alcohol and I’ve been trying to keep up with things because I don’t have the space to sink over this.

I remember my car got stolen once. The cops came to my house and accused me of stealing my own car. Then when they found it they called me to let me know they were taking it to the impound at 2am, where it cost me 250 bucks to get my own car back. That whole incident showed me how absolutely useless the police are to working class people.

Lmfao that’s some chief wiggum shit

I seriously wanted to fist fight them when they came to my door. They were like “so we don’t think your car was stolen, we think you stole it yourself. This happens often” to which point I was like “to what benefit? How and why would I steal my own car?” And they were like “are you willing to take a lie detector test?” And I was like “YEAH FINE IF IT HELPS ME GET MY CAR BACK FASTER” like what the fuck are my tax dollars even paying for? I didn’t even get to take the stupid lie detector test, which I was actually excited for because I thought they were cool.

'Lie detectors' don't even work. They just measure how stressed you are and assume that stress = lying.

I know, but I didn’t know that back then and I wanted to see one in action because I was super into aliens when I was a teenager and they always used them in those stories.

I have taken three polygraph tests in my life. I lied on all three, all different lies. They didn't catch the real lies, but they accused me of lying on answers that were 100% true.

Polygraph tests are voodoo. Their results can be interpreted any way they want. NEVER take one by law enforcement, no matter how much they try to shame you into it. They aren't admissable in any court in America, so there is no reason for them. Refuse all demands for a polygraph.

Sherlock Holmes detective work if Sherlock Holmes had sniffed some ether, fell down, and cratered his frontal lobe on the corner of an oak desk.

Sherlock Holmes, but in the middle of one of his cocaine benders.

I was walking along the street one day, years ago, wearing a Guns N Roses t shirt. A group of teenage boys began harassing me over it and called me a goth, then battered me around the head with a lead pipe. I managed to escape and get home, went to the hospital for treatment. Police were called. When I described the incident to the policeman, he looked at my shirt in a very disparaging way, and in an accusatory tone of voice asked, And ARE you a goth?" As if it was my fault. Of course they did nothing about apprehending my attackers.

Some years after that i was sexually assaulted in the street by a gang of 4 men and the police were even worse.

Damn, for a guns and roses shirt? They aren’t even close to goth.

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Guns and Roses?? The favorite band of 60 year old white dads?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

JFC. Also gnr are goth? When did this happen?!

[–] DisabledAceSocialist@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That was actually ages ago, around 2001. The town I lived in, if you weren't a tracksuit-wearing townie, you were "goth."

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's wild. People will seize on any excuse to be nasty, when it's just as easy to seize on any excuse to be kind. I'm sorry that happened to you, and glad that with all the mess you're experiencing, you're still a kind person.
