Reporting in from Minnesota: State law enforcement is now telling everybody "Do not show up to No Kings Day Events"

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 65 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Sen. Walz posted on Bluesky for people to not go to protests and there were 400 comments of mostly people saying they were going anyways. Was nice to see.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Walz is governor. His statement is intentional. He needs to be seen as "giving good advice".

He knows it won't stop anyone. Just like during the George Floyd protests. He knows what he's doing.

Thank you for this comment. I live in Minnesota and expect that if they believe there's a safety concern this is what they should be saying.

Of course we're still going to go but it's only right for our representatives to make sure we, as Minnesotans, can make that decision with full understanding of the safety risks.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Trump is a larger safety concern than any single gunman. They should frame it in that context imo.

Some people will get busted up and arrested if not worse. We'd all be safe and sound just sitting at home, watching TV and flipping through tiktok, for some time, until we can't breathe, we're forced out of our homes because we can't afford them or we're in the way of a golf course, we lose our kids because we told them a man can love another man, we can't go anywhere because every road is busted or costs money to use, our profession becomes non-existent from AI doing everything, and we die of cancer because health insurance is "our own responsibility" as is navigating insurance bureaucracy.

Yeah, a nice sitcom would hit the spot.

Proud of you Minnesota

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 72 points 1 day ago

Show up. Don't let these assholes control you through fear.

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Fuck that. It's ok to be scared, but try to fight back.

As they fucking should.

You don't need permission to protest. If they try to stop you, protest harder and escalate accordingly

I went to my local one (not in MN) after reading this news, and I brought my pistol.
