I've been pounding the municipal grocery store drum for a while in my friend groups and posting. Glad somebody finally listened.
I'm kind of interested in the municipal grocery store idea. Is it because of a lack of grocery stores or price gouging that he's making it one of his promises?
I don't know what Zohran's rhetoric is (don't live in New York and have only seen what's posted here) but for me it's both. Public markets would be the sister of public housing: increasing supply while eschewing profit, forcing commercial groceries to lower prices to compete. The ideal would be to force corporations out of the city and have the city buy their old buildings.
It's the only sane reaction to the price gouging these fuckers did over the last few years. They are always doing it, but they did it so brazenly.
The only response ghouls really have against public grocery stores, particularly if they don't entirely replace the private ones, is that it's "unfair" for the state to compete with the private market.
