“He’s building affordable housing! The horror!”

[–] deforestgump@hexbear.net 26 points 1 day ago

In the burbs, affordable housing is code for "minorities".

All that money wasted on Americans is money that doesn’t go to Israel. Antisemitism is rampant!

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

It's crazy to think that if Israel was incorporated into America that Israeli living standards would plummet

[–] ratboy@hexbear.net 45 points 1 day ago (3 children)

No idea how anyone, even right wing, would be angered by free bus fare, affordable housing, rent freezes, or even the grocery stores. Obviously his face and the word "democrat" are attached to it so he will automatically be demonized but still.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 44 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because reactionaries think if someone is getting something "for free," that was something they could have gotten to keep for themselves. They don't want free bus fare because they think they could have kept part of their taxes to spend on F150s. They don't want affordable housing because it means minorities and poor people moving into their city. They think state-owned businesses are less efficient than the private sector.

All of these beliefs are wrong, of course. They are unable to see how benefits for the rest of society improves their owns lives because they're terminally individualistic.

[–] ratboy@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah makes sense. I suppose if those things were reserved for them and not the people they despise, they migjt song a different tune. At least to some. Idk even thinking of it from a more selfish position it's so hard for me to think about that facet of their beliefs. It's less about improving their own conditions but making sure everyone else's are worse. Ugh

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They are mad because they believe these policies will disproportionately benefit people they consider subhuman. Implementing them would break the social contract of "we can't make your life better but we'll make sure the people you hate have it worse".

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Similar to how these same rightwing chodes fearmonger over lmayo becoming a 'minority' in the US (or at least, not a plurality).

They fear that minorities will do to them what they did (and wanted to do) to minorities

[–] ratboy@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

Touché. It's just so difficult for me to get inside the mind of a conservative, even if I'm trying to thinking individualistically. To have feelings of hate greater than feelings of preservation of your own self interest is just wild to me

porky-scared-flipped: “It’s not about the material conditions! It’s the PRINCIPLE! Providing those is STEALING, and there’s no HONOR and GLORY in unearned goods!” <- receives billions in subsidies so maybe one day he’ll start making jobs again

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago

porky-scared-flipped He's promising things that are actually popular!

[–] Rose_Thorne@lemmy.zip 32 points 1 day ago

They couldn't have at least shopped a less friendly image into it? Like, even removing the platform he's running on, trying to demonize the man while he just looks so friendly is absolutely hilarious.

"This man is a horrible human being! He'll do terrible things! Ignore that he looks like he'd sit and genuinely discuss the issues over a beer!"

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago (3 children)

This was the most scary image they could find of him? The man must be a saint.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 5 points 23 hours ago

It's because Fox news viewers live in a media bubble so full of dogwhistles that none of these things actually mean the things they mean:

  1. "Affordable Housing" is code for "us-foreign-policy will ruin the neighbourhood."

  2. "City owned grocery stores and fare free buses" I'm not 100% sure on their fearmongering, but I think it might be "big gubmint is coming to take your 4x4 Childslaughtermobile away and force you to eat your veggies."

3."LGBTQA+ Protections" This is a pretty obvious one, but it's the standard "They'll make it illegal to be straight!"

4."Raising minimum wage" is fearmongered by the right as "destroying the economy" because the best way to build a house is to never worry about the foundation and just make sure the roof is as big and heavy as possible. Their primary viewership is small business tyrants and wannabe small business tyrants, so the idea of actually paying their employees is seen as an abomination.

5."Trump-proofing NYC" is pretty self-explanatory. They're just claiming that opposing ICE is opposing Our Glorious Lord Trump.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Far be it from me to say anything positive about Fox news, but at the very least they didn't try fearmongering with him via trying to place a scary image (an imagine like this? I genuinely don't think they tried to find a scary image of him)

Either that or it never occurred to them to use a scary looking image

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

he's brown that's scary enough for their audience. if they make it too scary they'd cause heart attacks and lose viewers

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I think they want him in power, so they can lamblast him for everything he tries to do, and then can then point the finger at his ineffectiveness during his term, so they can compare him to their next prized drooling candidate who they will praise unendlessly

[–] Des@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

generically good looking ~~middle eastern~~ (sorry South Asian, didn't do research) guy with a nice smile how can we make that extra scary

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 34 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I've been pounding the municipal grocery store drum for a while in my friend groups and posting. Glad somebody finally listened.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm kind of interested in the municipal grocery store idea. Is it because of a lack of grocery stores or price gouging that he's making it one of his promises?

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

I don't know what Zohran's rhetoric is (don't live in New York and have only seen what's posted here) but for me it's both. Public markets would be the sister of public housing: increasing supply while eschewing profit, forcing commercial groceries to lower prices to compete. The ideal would be to force corporations out of the city and have the city buy their old buildings.

[–] mayakovsky@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

It's the only sane reaction to the price gouging these fuckers did over the last few years. They are always doing it, but they did it so brazenly.

The only response ghouls really have against public grocery stores, particularly if they don't entirely replace the private ones, is that it's "unfair" for the state to compete with the private market.

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Are we gonna see some insane ICE activity in NYC before the end of the year? They have a cooperative (blackmailed) mayor for now, and they will want to take advantage of that while they can. I'm sure trump and zohran will have a showdown on the issue though if he does become mayor

[–] Pentacat@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Looking at California, they’re allowed to send in troops now.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

hopefully ICE and NYPD kill eachother but that's only slightly more likely than the stonks on ice thing.

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago

Oh waow, 5 cakes and a beefcake waow-based

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago

IMO this isn't left enough.

Albeit if I lived in NY he has my vote.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Ultraleft nonsense
