Unpopular Opinion
Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!
How voting works:
Vote the opposite of the norm.
If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.
Guidelines:
Tag your post, if possible (not required)
- If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
- If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].
Rules:
1. NO POLITICS
Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.
2. Be civil.
Disagreements happen, but that doesnβt provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...
Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.
5. No trolling.
This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.
Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

As an instance admin I get to see people's deleted comments, they are just marked as deleted. Every time a post comes in like this I like to check a users history.
Yeah dude, you deserve the massive downvotes.
If you're walking around town and smell shit everywhere you go, maybe you should check your shoe.
I think this logic is a little flawed. Say you're a well educated and intellectually honest left-wing person who likes a good debate and goes to a place like Truth Social to engage with people that have opposing beliefs. This person is going to receive a ton of hate for their efforts. They're going to "smell shit" everywhere. Doesn't still mean they're wrong.
This applies to Lemmy aswell. Certain topics simply just don't get a good reception here because of the audience. The experience of using this platform is wildly different to someone who generally aligns with the "activist left" compared to someone whose closer to the centre.
Ye ππ I think You got it. I am pretty left and I do tend to get flack for it.
I am also a bit of an outspoken atheist. I get flack for that too.
But I just don't take any of it too personally. I try to be more of an observer than a reactor.
Why do You feel that way? What exactly do I deserve the downvotes for? Genuinely stumped/curious. π€
I don't believe I have that problem; but thank You anyways.
From your comments you aren't being outright rude, but you are stirring the pot. I didn't feel offended, but you are being very flippant and uncaring about other people's views, and demeaning people for having those views.
For example, if someone lays out an opinion that is thought provoking and they tried, one response would be
The feeling I get from your responses are more like
Which to me would be a downvote. If you want respect you have to give it first, even when you disagree.
