The frogmouth looks like it's made to deflect arrows and maybe transfer energy from getting bopped on the head down into your shoulders. Can you even swivel your head around inside it or is your head basically held in place? If you could that might be a good concept for a helmet, the enemy wouldn't even know where you're looking. That would be really intimidating.

it was bolted in place. these late jousting pieces were significantly thicker and made inflexible to remove as much vulnerability as possible, because no one wants to die playing games, and you don't move much on the lists. the slit is still where you could get seriously injured, but that was as good as it could get at the time.
