Doesn't the battery cancel out the positive environmental effects of being low-carbon? Batteries are pretty bad for the environment once disposed of, usually, IIRC.

I don't think the state is seriously challenged by these protests yet anyway. They're pretty much just waiting it out. Seems to be the pattern with these global south uprisings that you have a few days or weeks of street action, some buildings get burned, and if the popular unrest is extreme enough then you might see a resignation or a backing-down from an unpopular policy but nothing will fundamentally change. I wonder what's preventing the burgeoning proletariat from getting organised for power instead of producing this cycle of chaos and disappointment; where are the Bolsheviks in all of this? The same pattern occurs in Nigeria, Kenya, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka (they did get a relatively left-leaning elected government eventually I guess), Indonesia, and so on... Is it just the strength of modern counter-revolutionary propaganda?

I don't think you could find a single social movement in the world over the past century that hasn't had some level of interference by international capital. It's a bit silly to go all the way to comparing it to a "colour revolution" on that basis. I'm not sure what running defence for a right-wing anti-communist government whose pigs literally ran over and murdered people is supposed to achieve here, are we meant to defend Indonesia's government for being part of BRICS? Does that also apply to the UAE?

Personally I'm on the side of the people standing up to a corrupt government that murdered over a million people, many of them communists, within living memory and still venerates the perpetrators. I'm not convinced that a "new Arab spring" would go like the last one either given that western states are in a way weaker position than they were in 2011 and there's generally far more anti-American sentiment amongst the global south masses now.

this is the sort of thing the state should be doing in general, and more vigorously

he's not just transphobic either, he's also a landlord, homophobe, and opponent of abortion rights

hanging out with an outright social conservative and landlord who opposes LGBT+ rights and abortion for one (Adnan Hussain)

Trump is just looking for new ppl to hang out with bc his old pal Joe isn't coming out of the home anymore. I think this was a success for him. He got to show off his jets and his beautiful military men to Putin, and the nasty press didn't manage to ruin the vibes. Even floated the idea of hanging out in Moscow soon, I bet Putin would show him some cool tanks and gorgeous Russian military men.

this isnt going to be very well written or coherent but:

look, I'm not trying to be the classic reactionary STEM grad who feels entitled to a high-paid tech position because I stumbled through three years of lectures. I'm not that. I've done a couple of years since graduating in hospitality work and that was generally horrible/couldn't get enough hours to pay rent/got misgendered whenever my bosses were having a bad day. Now that sector is in big trouble too so there aren't any jobs going, even if i could stomach going back into it. And apparently chef's work is a black mark on your CV and a lot of employers will write you off based on that anyway?

people say "networking is more important than qualifications". Well, that's great, but as someone who comes from a working class family, I have no idea how to do that, and never knew it was necessary until after the period I was apparently given the greatest opportunity to do it (university). and now it's like, what, am I just supposed to message people on LinkedIn out of the blue begging for work? with no experience? Where do I even begin with that?

I would love to work on the railways or in local government or something but I don't hear anything back from those roles. My best asset is that I spent 2 years setting up a tenant union in a major city, but apparently that's not good enough to even get an interview for support worker role at a charity that literally supports tenants and homeless people. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Every time I get close to a job, it always ends the same way - interview, feel like I did well, get a call back a couple of days later saying "thanks but somebody else had more experience". My experience was literally on my CV, if it wasn't enough then don't waste my time calling me in to interview!

thanks for reading

keep hearing that marketing is being completely wiped out as a career due to the rise of AI, and tbh, i don't give a shit. useless career that doesn't need to exist anyway.

like even ignoring the worst-case scenarios we're set for crises in the immediate future that will dwarf the "cost-of-living crisis" of 2022-23 and the pandemic. but basically the vast majority of people are just hoping that it'll all be fine and we'll go back to how things were in the 90s if we have some Good Government. it's going to be interesting to see how the masses respond to this situation, which they have been repeatedly informed of for decades now, but which they still don't understand.
