Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Could this be caused by our poor animal husbandry and overconsumption of chicken?

No let's just pump money into big pharma

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago

no, this is regulation’s fault. we need to cut those and also taxes on the rich while we’re at it.

"Look, either they eat shit or you do! Or both of you do. I've got a bunch of shit and y'all gotta eat it or else I'm gonna make less money by paying someone to clean it up."

I thought there already was a birdflu vaccine and we just don't have the production capacity to vaccinate everyone. How does this help?

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 25 points 2 weeks ago

It helps Moderna

There isn't a bird flu pandemic vaccine because there isn't a pandemic yet.

They have lots of vaccines stockpiled (and could have enough doses for the world given how long they've been available) but it won't perfectly match a pandemic bird flu virus (similar to seasonal influenza).

Being able to use mRNA vaccines would help production issues and also help Moderna move on the influenza vax market

Well, you see, it makes the shareholders happy. Bet you didn't think of the shareholders, did ya? smuglord

Currently there is no pandemic as human to human exchange of bird flu hasn't occurred yet (thankfully), instead we have bird to human transmission by way of people being around or tending to flocks of birds infected with bird flu (small and isolated incidences so far). All it takes however is someone to be infected while also suffering from a winter flu or cold for the right mutation shuffle to occur.

tag me when this goes the same way the Intel stimulus money injection went; millions missing, hundreds of jobs cut and nothing to show for it

$590 million of public money gifted to private entity so they can sell us back the vaccine we paid for

The public health risk remains low,

Liberal publications needs to say this shit. When it fails in six months, no apologies or changes are ever made.

"No one could've seen this coming."

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

Wooo, time to blow that on stock buybacks.

[–] glans@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

And of course the worst part of it is that thanks to misinformation being spread by "the bird site", most birds are vaccine denialists who won't even take the vaccine.

(Sorry I am not able to articulate the joke properly. Maybe someone else can do it better.)

590 million dollars could buy a LOT of chicken feces to feed cows with!

[–] glans@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

On Friday, Moderna said the additional funding will help pay for late-stage development, licensure of the vaccines and expanding clinical studies for additional subtypes of pandemic influenza to prevent other potential public health emergencies.

So it is ready to go, basically?

Obviously EXPROPRIATION is the right tool for the job.
