Summary

Consumer confidence has declined since Donald Trump’s return to office, with the University of Michigan reporting a drop in sentiment and rising inflation concerns.

Many Trump voters are frustrated by market turbulence and sweeping executive orders. Voter Paul Bisson fears economic instability, saying, “That’s not what we signed up for.”

Geneticist Nicholas Schuch plans to move savings to Swiss Francs, expecting ongoing chaos.

Polls indicate growing anxiety, with some supporters questioning Trump’s policies and their long-term economic impact.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that "waste" is gonna go right into the pockets of the wealthy and the select few.

run 'o the mill redcap maganuts are not on that list--never were

Oh I've been aware. For the past TWENTY. FUCKING. YEARS. I've been aware... that's how long i'v been trying to get them to step away from this shitbag hate spewing open sewage pipe.

They insist I'm, and I fucking quote, 'divorced from reality.'

[–] karashta@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The last political talk I had with my 70+ year old mother ended with her screaming at me and crying while she called me a know it all for actually having thought through my convictions and having data to back it up.

I called her out for holding a brick in her hand that has access to all of human knowledge and saying all she did was look at fucking Facebook.

Then I get told I don't know what I'm talking about despite knowing very well what I'm talking about.

These people are demented

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This sounds like why I don't talk to my family.

Or more accurately, why they (thankfully) choose not to talk to me. Because I'm more than happy to be considered the 'know it all' because I bother to rub two braincells together and force them to have to spark a thought to defend themselves.

Chaos is exactly what you signed up for, maybe read the fucking fine print next time.

[–] whygohomie@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Chaos was the main constant his entire first presidency.

Fuck. Does nobody remember infrastructure week?

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 23 points 1 day ago

Infrastructure Week lasted four years and was always two weeks away. This term is apparently Executive Order Day, every day that ends in a "why".

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I know it's tempting to dunk on these people, but if you know anyone like this, tell them to call their Senator and voice their displeasure. They probably won't listen, and they deserve their, "leopards ate my face," moment, but trying to mobilize them would be far more productive than saying, "told you so."

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Very good point. I plan on giving the people I know IRL an off-ramp and I will try not to show that I'm judging them. Breaking with a cult is very difficult. Admitting they were wrong about nearly everything is world-shattering.

It's even harder if they think people will just be hostile and tell them how wrong they were, etc. As much as people want to give them no safe harbor, and make them grovel and prostrate themselves before normal Americans and constantly remind them about how much they have hurt others....that's not how the human psyche works. Almost no one is going to return to normalcy for that kind of treatment...

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Exactly. Also, be prepared to do it in stages. I'm sure a lot of people probably aren't ready to admit that voting for Trump was a mistake, but they might be willing to admit that Trump is making mistakes by starting a trade war or giving Musk so much power. Take what common ground you find and try to build on it.

[–] ubergeek@lemmy.today 1 points 20 hours ago

Unless they are done being class traitors, I hope they starve.

[–] notsoshaihulud@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No they aren't angry. They give zero fucks and just pull an RFK on Samoa. They will simply not to pay attention to "MSM" if it gets inconvenient, and any present change will be chalked up to Kamala.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I think I have seen a few anecdotal instances where I'm seeing cracks. One of them is likely to lose their job directly because of donvict being in office.

I have no sense of how widespread it really is, though. There is that guy running that channel about maga leaving the cult. And of course the media they watch will do nearly everything possible, as long as possible, to prop up the illusion of "Trump".

[–] notsoshaihulud@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

That's very optimistic. Remember people leaving the GOP ship in droves after Jan6? By 2024 they managed to return to trump somehow. Almost everything that happened in the past 3 weeks that is of consequence to peoples livelihoods had been entirely predictable. I wouldn't count on the judgement, nor the political memory of people with sudden "trumpgret" in 2024.

[–] RamblingPanda@lemmynsfw.com 13 points 1 day ago

To be honest, I expected it to be bad. But this right now? Oh my gosh. He really out-trumped himself.

[–] Magnus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 22 hours ago

Wow a 5% decline... ... ... ...

[–] harmsy@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

Dumbasses voted for a clown and didn't expect the inevitable circus.

Womp womp.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hope you get what you vote for.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Please, no. Don't wish that on the rest of us.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I hope you get what you voted for.

I never thought the leopards would eat my face...

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Anything to stick it to the libs?

Fuckers.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

A Republican would let Trump shit in their mouth if it meant a 'lib' had to smell it.

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Strange, because it’s EXACTLY what they signed up for.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don’t worry there’s only forty-seven and a half months left.

There’s a part of me that hopes it’s much less but that couch fucker is a smart guy which is scary.

[–] Aidinthel@reddthat.com 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm hoping that Vance won't be able to hold MAGA together. The thing about cults of personality is that when the dear leader is gone they tend to fall apart. Fingers crossed.

How many more people do you think will accept this… harm… if the eggs were down?

[–] singletona@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

A depressing amount.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 23 hours ago

Geneticist Nicholas Schuch plans to move savings to Swiss Francs, expecting ongoing chaos.

Wow can you imagine your face getting eaten by leopards this hard? \s

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

I'm tired of hearing this. These people need to be shunted from our narrative.

[–] sqw@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 21 hours ago

"best we can do is several genocides"
