Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

Not pictured, but it's definitely Micro-Face.

Good news: your character has a new comic book.

https://www.gamesradar.com/npr-and-comic-book-vets-team-to-revive-the-golden-age-superhero-micro-face-no-really/

The (not really) legendary superhero Micro-Face is revived by the (not really) legendary publisher NPR Planet Money

Give us a few moments to explain. Suffice it to say, you can order the character's revival The Myserterious Micro-Face #1, written by Alex Segura, penciled by fan-favorite artist Jamal Igle, with a main cover and character redesign from legendary veteran Jerry Ordway, colored by Ellie Wright, and lettered by Taylor Esposito right now.

https://shopnpr.org/micro-face-a-planet-money-comic-book

NPR Planet Money has done these things a number of times. Like, they go out and start a tiny record label and publish a song, or buys some oil as an investment, shorts stock, or whatever. Then they do a story on it and explain how the economics involved work.

EDIT: And here are the relevant eight podcasts for their creation of the comic book:

Black Terror...and his sidekick, Tim.

That's quite a pairing.

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 3 days ago

Some people call him... Tim.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago

She can break me

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

She can fix me

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

That's what Fearless Flint said and look at him now!

[–] DrBob@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

Whatever she's down for.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 4 points 3 days ago

For a hell of a good time!

O no, these are all amazing, the names, the dorky costumes! I think personally it's gonna be Lady Satan for me but The Face "Mr. Face" and "Black Terror and Tim" are amazing as well.

[–] jlow@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 days ago

Power Man & Sub-Zero Man!

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

Tim no one is more dangerous and so powerful than the mighty Tim

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 9 points 2 days ago

Superheroes from the “what if the sideshow weightlifter was also a vigilante?” phase of the industry

[–] murmelade@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Magno & Davey because their powers only activates when they dock with eachother. Their origin story is wild

[–] Transtronaut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] murmelade@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

As their shirt logo demonstrates. Here's the plot twist though: Magno is circumcised.

[–] tpihkal@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm just glad that there aren't TOO many women!

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I love that the sidekick is always a less manly and smaller version of the main hero.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It's like a lot of superheros get their powers from rawdogging their pet twink.

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago

Lol venture bros had a pedophile superman type that this reminds me off

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

My kid was supposed to bring in objects for show and tell that started with tw- and tr- and after casting about for a minute I thought of sending her in with a TWink with a dumpTRuck ass, and I think the internet has broken my mind.

[–] notabot@lemm.ee 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Eww, no you can't have women being superheros! They're just supposed to stand around shouting "hayelp! hayelp!" and being rescued by the burly chap in the improbable costume. Surely everybody knows that?

For the avoidance of doubt, this is very much /s

[–] Mildren@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I'm sorry, she keep the auxiliary fuel tank where?

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

There were actually a lot from this era, just not in the picture I found off reddit when googling lol

[–] classic@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago

Hydro Man. Saw the covers in some book as a kid, created a bunch of adventures based on the concept

[–] Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

With zero prior knowledge :

The green man & domino, because I love a homemade-looking vigilante costume and Black terror & Tim because I thought of that for some reason

[–] slingstone@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Anybody seen Austin McConnell's cinematic universe of public domain characters? It's at least partially on his YouTube channel. Here.

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah I wish ppl would utilize them more as background characters at least, would be cool to see different takes on superverses using them

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

The public domain super group was a fun idea

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I actually really like the simple black/gold with skull and crossbones for Black Terror and Tim.

[–] 0p3r470r@lemm.ee 7 points 3 days ago

There are those who call me…Tim

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Fearless Flint looks rather Oiled Otto. Amazing Man is just He-Man without the silly hair

Got a link for more of those folks, op?

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 4 points 3 days ago

I choose.. Tim.

[–] THB@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

Amazing! I recognize a few from my Marvel history book even. The drawings are so great, who did them?? I want to say Alex Ross, but I don't think it's him?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

This is fantastic!

Are there more you say?
