Get some of that nail polish that prevents you from biting your nails and tastes really sour and put it on your skin instead of your nails. It won't stop you from biting necessarily but it will stop you from unconsciously biting.
This might backfire..I love sour candy
Meant bitter, not sour. There is no way anybody likes that taste.
But even if you do, for me it wasn't 'this is so disgusting I'm not gonna bite anymore' but more my brain snapping out of unconsciously biting as soon as I realized the taste and then you get a brief moment to consciously stop.

Your hands are dry. Use moisturizer. Or lather your hands in Vaseline before bed and sleep with cotton gloves. You will have a new set of hands in the morning.

Not all fingers, usually only 1 or 2. Now my left index and right thumb has these holes
I don't know - those fingernails and cuticles look way better than mine!
If your cuticles do this on their own, or you notice pitting on or under your nails, it might be an early sign of psoriasis.

How did y'all get a picture of my hand after a couple weeks of biting my fingernails?
I have cracks on the corners of my fingers, beside the nail. They run deep and I have to put Polysporin with lidocaine on them to reduce the throbbing sting. It's due to a combination of biting my nails and working a job that requires constant antibacterial hand-washing. I hate it.
