thanks i wasnt aware of such person i noticed he posts some interesting things so i'll keep an eye on him although im still too early to judge him at least on the Librefox video he seems rather childish on how he talks for someone complaining of a dev stance to then see target audience people in the comments talking about using Brave is pretty lame, if they were going to something like Ladybird (not ready for endusers yet) or Konqueror or Falkon it'd make more sense, I also watched the video about the BSDCan and it just gave me the wrong impression of him or hes really childish for my taste though I'll try watching his other videos when I can to be sure I'm maybe not misjudging him

yeah, i only watch him because this content isnt really talked about anywhere else, afaik.

I'm not a regular follower but Louis Rossmann does similar videos but not all the same subjects (however tech-only too) and he talks more coherently at first impression

I mean, they're not evil.

[–] astro_ray@piefed.social 13 points 6 days ago

I mean, it is better than Chrome in not being evil, but that is a very low bar.

Well I think it's true

[–] CrayonDevourer@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I'd say they're still not evil, they unfortunately just let themselves be captured by an evil company to keep them afloat.

Any company who pays their CEO $6.9 million dollars - a thousand times the salary of their lowest white-collar employee - can't claim to be not evil.

Google does that because you cant use Safari if your not on a fruit device and the feds will dust off the anti-trust book and throw it at them ar mach 6 otherwise.

Mozilla with 500M google funding spent it on bakers salary and buying shit companies that they layer write off.

They may not be evil, but sure are incompetent.

3 guys made basically a new engine in a couple of years with minimal funding while improving standards.

The only good thing that came out of mozilla in years was rust/servo.

Radical opinion: the sooner mozilla dies, the better. We will have alternatives. In fact, we have them already.

The closest browser with their marketing budget that's not necessarily evil.

I dunno. I'm reading through the Teixeira v Mozilla documents a little at a time, and Moz does not want the court to have a copy of the independent audit on their business ethics (or lack threreof)

...and even insinuated the report might not even be true.

[–] Resplendent606@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Most browsers are just products of evil people or companies.

I don't think that any browsers have a lot by way of moral or ethical positions. Yet. We'll see what happens with AI software. :-)
