German oligarchs: Don't ask who originally owned their companies before 1933.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 20 points 3 days ago

What I hate the most is how they always try paint themselves as a family business. Little family business called BMW with 150k employees, producing millions of cars each year.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago

More importantly, don't ask why the same people still owned companies after 1945.

And all they got was a slap on the wrist.
Capitalism and fascism have always been good to eachother.

Being successful at either requires a total lack of morals and ethics.

Unfortunately not uncommon traits in humans.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 3 days ago

actually extremely uncommon traits in humans, which is why it took hundreds of thousands of years for it to get this bad, and why our species is still alive despite it.

They also made tanks

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think they were referring to originally Jewish-owned companies that were taken over. Aren't these or at least some of these founded by the nazis themselves?

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

Volkwagen was a (Nazi) state founded company. It is one reason why the Nazis were popular because they genuinely gave people jobs with re-industrialisation (albeit on borrowed time because of excessive government spending, and of course with how history unfolded).

Hey now, they wouldn't exist without the help of IBM, Ford, and Standard Oil.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 59 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Also, the American oligarch’s dad owned the trees.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

"What does Bloobr do, anyway?"

"It's an AI company that mines Bitcoins which represent a futures market for derivatives tied to the large stake we own in trees."

Canadian oligarchs are like either:

I own your entire province and everything inside of it

or

I own every company in this sector, try to escape me :^)

Oligarchs who own Scotland ≠ Scottish oligarchs

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 26 points 4 days ago

Genuinely Scotland had to join the United Kingdom because the landowning gentry blew all their money on a failed start-up colony.

King of England owns the swans

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 47 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I heard in an interview that the difference between US and Britain class systems, is that the US class is based on money and the Britain class is based on bloodline.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 26 points 4 days ago (1 children)

English Aristocracy that has notadjusted for the modern world are clinging on their inbred bloodlines while their estates went into administration.

Britain is like any other westoid regime is owned a hand full of wealthy people some of whom are aristocratic but they are definitely oligarchs first and foremost.

[–] FozzyOsbourne@lemm.ee 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

westoid

I don't know what you're trying to imply with this word but it sounds like some 4chan incel "femoid" shit

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

"The rules based international world order"

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You are right, we don't deserve better this.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

'Rules based international order' as opposed to what?

How do you expect society to function without rules of behavior, for example?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nobody follows the rules unless it is convenient.

Were you born yesterday?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Seriously? Plenty of currently functioning democracies have people following the rules because they have faith their govt will represent them fairly.

I'm thinking this is a massive self report, but truth be told — I don't care.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We are not talking about peasants here, topic is the behavior of the sovereigns.

I don't think you understand what "The rules based international world order" means in geopolitical context.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Sure, I'm the one who doesn't understand what I'm saying. You got me.

Honestly, I'd take Niel as my overlord any day over the fuckers who are actually running the show.

That's a very navie perspective... Owning land is more indicative of aristocracy

German oligarchs for example are mostly Nazi nepo babies and their capital was entirely or in part a result of slave labour among other crimes.
