Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Is that wallpaper peeling, or just deep-fried pixels? Left of the picture, behind the blonde wig.

Basically: Trump and Musk had a fight. And since they're both terminally online, one of them would eventually spill the beans on shit online. It was Musk, on Xitter. And it includes spicy things like:

  • Musk saying Trump didn't release the Epstein files because Trump is in them
  • Calling for Trump's impeachment and replacement with Vance.
  • Musk: “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination”

UOL and CNN Brasil have some info on that.

Holy moly! I wonder if shit will get even more serious than that!

[–] lvxferre@mander.xyz 2 points 6 hours ago

This is just my guess but I believe so.

It's clear that both Musk and Trump care more about their own egos than anything else, and this ruckus made of them a laughing stock - and they'll likely blame it on each other. So Trump might implement policies in USA just to piss off Musk, and Musk might make public a lot of the shit Trump hid under the rug.

This will also have some impact in the next elections here in Brazil. I think the right will be less eager to create huge "acordões", fearing they might turn out as in USA.

blah blah. Musk is a sore loser who hates that he can't be a big man anymore. Should've thought things through before he helped kill the best system capitalists ever had. Now he has no real recourse because only one office holds any power.

[–] lvxferre@mander.xyz 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Should’ve thought things through before

That's 99% of the right, with an error margin of 1%. They never think anything through.

I'm amused at the whole situation though, I want Trump and Musk to fight like two rabid dogs. If one of them gets rid of the other, humankind becomes a better place.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago

Unfortunately, I worry if Elmo gets rid of Trump we aren’t in a better place with a president Vance.

[–] BurningRiver@beehaw.org 1 points 4 hours ago

This isn’t Hanlon’s razor here. They know exactly what they’re doing, and they’ve absolutely thought this through. While 47 might be a petulant manchild, the people he’s surrounded himself with are as dangerous as anyone.

Apparently Elon and Trump had a big online fight today. I didn't follow it, so that's all the context that I have.

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you have to ask for context, I have to ask where you got the rock you're living under, and where can I get one?

[–] P4ulin_Kbana 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

There's two factors that contribute to this:

  • I live outside of US;

  • and I am busy most of the day, at school.

I had only heard "Elon got a beef with Trump", but I didn't knew shit was THAT crazy…

Lucky bastard. You don't happen to have a couch I could rent for about 43 months?

Wait, when did the Kraftwerk mannequins visit the White House?
