Then the fixation disappears and you have a shelf full of food you never want to see again.

Edit: on the shelf just above the expired food from the last fixation that never got thrown away.

I feel like this is more an autistic or audhd trait. I'm way more likely to forget food exists for 24 hours than to ever eat the same thing twice in a row. My novelty seeking ensures my diet is pure choas.

Those mangos are really freaking good though right?!

[–] Charlxmagne@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not autistic but I got the same with music, I'll listen to the same genre/subgenre or artist for about a week straight sometimes.

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Hyperfixations are a symptom of autism but not exclusively so. Anyone can hyperfixate, even NT individuals. It's just more likely for those of us with the tism or ADHD.

My autistic ass is around 4 months in into eating the same dinner almost every day. And like 3 years into eating mostly the same supper.

[–] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 1 points 8 hours ago

This is me, I have had the same thing for breakfast every day for the last 5? maybe 6 years.

[–] JillyB@beehaw.org 2 points 23 hours ago

Dinner and supper are different?

[–] wfh@lemm.ee 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hot sauce! Hot sauce on pizza! Hot sauce on pasta! Hot sauce on rice! Hot sauce on bread! Hot sauce in a spoon! Hot sauce on fruits! Hot sauce in a yoghurt because desserts are a social construct! Hot sauce on quiche!

[–] chocosoldier@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 21 hours ago

i was putting it in my coffee too lol

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is me with MSG. Everything tastes better with it, so why not put it on everything?

[–] yuri@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

oh no that’s the trick with msg tho

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago

Bruh, i can't control my impulses for shit. I literally can't stop eating. Just started on meds and for the first time I didn't get the urge to uncontrollably eat.

Only until the obsession ends. Then back in the underweight hell I go until I find the next taste, texture or whatever I'm obsessed with.

I hate the days I'm left alone with the decision what to eat..

[–] damdy@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

I plan to eat so much every day, basically he same.

[–] AddLemmus@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (2 children)

When I suddenly fixate on a food, the shelf is not restocked, and even 2 or 3 days later, I can't buy it again.

Feel like "Truman Show", as if the store and other shoppers are just some illusion for me and they can only restock in great numbers what I usually buy.

Edit: Can't believe it's happening to so many others here!

[–] Alk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 14 hours ago

I once got a fixation with a certain spicy hummus. I emailed the grocery store to ask them to stock more of it because I was constantly buying all of it.

The head manager emailed me back saying they would, and they would order a larger quantity just for me.

I stopped eating that hummus 3 weeks later. I was so ashamed that I never went there again.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sometimes I feel like I'm personally responsible for a store's ordering system going haywire. Like, a store can stock like 1 or 2 of the item a month and be fine , then I become fixated on it and they need to start stocking 20+. By the time the store catches up with me ive moved on and they are stuck with dozens of that item.

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I have literally seen this happen to my local dollar general with Cheese-Its Extra Toasted. They used to never stock them. I randomly caught a hankering for them after trying them out.

They went from only ever having maybe 5 boxes on the shelf to having it 3 rows of 5 deep after a month.

After 3 months I lost the hankering. Still get me a box every now and then though. They still keep that shelf filled.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 3 points 15 hours ago

To be fair though, extra toated Cheese-its are goated.

A month or so ago all I wanted to eat was mangoes, then the adhd goblin told me that mangoes are too hard and I moved on to microwave hamburgers.

[–] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Try mangos with tajin

[–] Goodtoknow@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

where do you find microwave bamburgers

Freezer section at, like, an aldi. Also my nightmares.

[–] JayJay@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I got me some at walmart, now I'm on to the stir fry cup of noodles. They're some good shit.

[–] lesnout27@feddit.org 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

For me it's tofu right now, lol

[–] F04118F@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Tofu press + wok + sesame oil = ❤️

[–] Cobratattoo@feddit.org 1 points 8 hours ago

That's true but it takes too much time so I just eat raw tofu.

[–] dumnezero@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

fresh and warm tofu is delicious

[–] lesnout27@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes! My favorite for now is tofu baked with linseed oil and seasoned with chili salt

[–] maccentric@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Linseed oil? I’ve never heard of that being used in cooking. What does it add to the dish?

[–] lesnout27@feddit.org 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

For cooking it's called flaxseed oil, i guess, my bad. As i just read again it's important to use it cold, so to add it to the tofu AFTER baking. It's healthy for it's omega 3, which goes lost when heated as well as the taste.

Quark with flaxseed oil i can also recommend

[–] maccentric@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Gotcha. Never really thought about flaxseed oil for flavor like olive or sesame, I’ll have to pay more attention next time I use it.

Quark?

[–] lesnout27@feddit.org 1 points 43 minutes ago

Curd not quark, sorry my english broken today, haha

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 11 points 1 day ago

... now listen here ... I keep my body on edge, it has no idea when it's getting switched to a super healthy or to a super unhealthy "diet".

[–] Brownboy13@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is just me around mangoes in general.

[–] zurohki@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

I always need a bath after I eat mango.

My kid has been begging for watermelon since last summer, when he did a 180 from despising it to being absolutely desperate for it.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I made a massive batch of homemade instant apple cinnamon oatmeal in a huge container.

every morning lol

[–] Goodtoknow@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

how? dried apples and cinnamon?

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Instant oatmeal, plain

50% brown sugar (chop it the hell up, it clumps)

50% White sugar

dried apple slices just crunched up in a bowl

Cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Although you can just do pumpkin pie spice then add a bit more cinnamon on top.

I added it all to taste and did little test batches until I got it the way I liked, sorry for no measurements.

[–] Goodtoknow@lemmy.ca 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Do you buy the Apple's pre-dried or do you have a dehydrator?

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 1 points 4 hours ago

pre-dried, I got them in bulk same as the oatmeal. lmao I have enough dried apples to make like two years worth of oatmeal mix.

I think everybody at my workplace is on the same food fixation cycle. It was shawarma every Friday for a couple years, then one day the same switch flipped for everybody and it's not been shawarma since.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 2 points 3 hours ago

What is it called when you eat the same food for the same meal for like years at a time? Now that's what I call a fixation! :-P
