This is what toilets look like in civilised countries.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Or, like, don't look at people's genitals in the bathrooms. This is not a real problem. Public restrooms have managed to create privacy for as long as we've had public restrooms. Trans people aren't a new phenomenon, they're just the latest conservative scapegoat.

This is not a real problem.

Public restrooms have managed to create privacy for as long as we’ve had public restrooms.

you're gonna laugh at this but romans shat in companionship with their fellow people, like this:

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Exactly. No doors, no walls, just a big room with a trough, and zero visible genitalia.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Just a bunch of guys having a good time, not a phone in sight

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have gone 30 something years of memory and the ONLY time I have ever seen genitalia in the bathroom was 1 intentional flasher in high school gym and 1 kid when we were in 1st grade who pulled his pants to his ankles by the sink and walked to the urinal on the opposite wall.

Never in my adult life has it occurred. If you keep your eyes away from genital height, you don't have anything to worry about..

So if you're having a problem with seeing people's junk in the bathroom, maybe stop staring?

And just to be clear, no incidents related to creeps or pedophiles would be prevented by restricting trans people from using public facilities. Creeps are already breaking the law peeking at people. Creating a law just gives creeps a reason to bully trans individuals when they have to pee.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Isn't this just a normal toilet?

[–] sexyskinnybitch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Not in the US. Most have stalls with walls that start about a foot off of the floor and end around 6' up.

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

We still have those, they are just less common depending on where you are. The most common bathroom type by far is single use bathrooms. This isn't really an actual issue, just a fact one made up by bigots.

[–] gandalf_der_12te@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

oh, we have that too in europe, sometimes. idk why they do that, actually

[–] cooligula@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Afaik it's mainly for ventilation purposes. The openings on the bottom and top create a path for air to flow.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And have gaps between the wall sections and around the doors.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Yeah this would never work in the States since there is no dime sized gap where you can lock eyes with other patrons.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 11 points 2 days ago

it's not a problem

it doesn't need solving

this wouldn't change anything anyways

[–] Bieren@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But how will the republicans peep through the cracks? Or slide under the wall to have totally not gay sex?

[–] Galapagon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Asking the real questions, how is this not the top reply?

[–] troed@fedia.io 20 points 2 days ago

I see Europe

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

In the UK, this is just what toilets look like.

Edit: and there's still a large opposition to trans people using toilets here

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Where is it though? I don't know anyone IRL that cares. And yet online apparently its the biggest issue in the world. Does make you wonder if they are either all bots or never leave the house.

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I know several IRL, I guess it's a matter of the people you hang out with.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think the worst I can think of is people that just don't really understand, think its strange/confusing. But no one that is hostile to your existence. They will probably use the wrong terms, but they don't really mean to offend and even if they think it odd, they won't stop you from using a fucking toilet.

I suppose most people I know voted green though so it might be a sampling bias.

The UK is experiencing a surge in hate and violence against trans people, so it's for sure sampling bias. From what I've heard from others from your country it varies by city a lot how accepting people are

I wish I didn't know anymore IRL that cares about it. In laws and an aunt are right wing. I try not to be around them as they say heinous things when they get drunk. And they're always drinking.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Looks a bit narrow but still preferable to the american bathroom stall.

It's the same size, just more private.

[–] A7thStone@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

But they don't wasn't to solve a "problem", they want to create one.

[–] dmention7@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago

American here. Aren't you worried about suffocating in that stall, without 1.5ft [50cm] gaps between the floor and the wall, and 1in [25mm] gaps around the door for proper ventilation?

I didn't read the title and was very confused about why you had shared a picture of a bathroom for a while

[–] hazl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago

And a hook upon which I can hang my bag and coat. Glorious toilet, this one. Good find.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Man, doing any sort of repair work in that stall looks like it would be a bitch.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It would probably be better to do repair work at home, or a workshop. Doing it in a bathroom stall you are likely to drop a small piece down the toilet.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I was more referring to the size of the stall. Very narrow, not a lot of space to maneuver.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

Agreed. Most of my table saws and furniture clamps couldn't be applied properly in there. I'll stick with my workshop.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

wait whads the problm?...

[–] PaulBunyan@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’m curious about the smell of these bathrooms compared to the ones with openings around the stall. The open stall allows better air flow, but that also means you’re getting a blend of everyone’s stench. These closed stalls seem like they’d hold a shit smell a lot longer, but you don’t have to share the smells with others.

[–] stray@pawb.social 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I never notice a smell unless it's like someone literally pissed on the floor or something, which is not super common around here. I bet you they're probably ventilated.

I used to draw ventilation for businesses! So I dunno what the requirements are for public bathrooms like these, but bathroom stalls are generally required to be well ventilated. We usually always placed an extract vent right above the toilet
