The government is busting out the big guns to surveil protesters, according to trackers.

As Trump’s shock troops invade Los Angeles, his administration is using every tool at its disposal to attack and surveil the political protests taking place in the city’s streets. That apparently includes the use of a Predator drone, which 404 Media reports was spotted by an aviation tracker as it zoomed over the city.

The outlet notes that, over the weekend, an MQ-9 Reaper flew over the political protests happening in the city. Onlookers suspected the drone’s presence based on public flight data that picked up movements of a mysterious aircraft:

One aircraft with no callsign, making it initially difficult to determine its model or which agency it belongs to, flew above the areas of the protests in Paramount and downtown Los Angeles on Sunday. The data showed this aircraft flying in distinctive hexagonal patterns, and 404 Media observed it fly afterwards to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Everything this administration does is anti-American.

exactly why they want to outlaw masks. they're getting footage of every single face at every single protest. probably using ai to check it against DL photos

I mean.

On 1 July 2014, Sierra Nevada Corporation revealed that the Gorgon Stare Increment 2 pod had achieved initial operating capability (IOC) earlier in the year.[15] While the Increment 1 system, first fielded in March 2011, could cover an area of 16 km2 (6.2 sq mi), the incorporation of the ARGUS-IS expands that coverage area to 100 km2 (39 sq mi). The system has 368 cameras capable of capturing 5 million pixels each to create an image of about 1.8 billion pixels. Video is collected at a variable frame-rate per second, with the resulting data output averaging several terabytes of video output per minute.[16]

Christ. So many options.. With security cameras and license plate readers and liveview trailers and ring doorbells without warrant and palantir and now drones that can just "watch an entire city" from the air and "see everything". But who needs to decide, they've got it all!

don't forget to go ahead and assume that every place you've gone with your phone, every text message, email, link clicked, thing you've bought online, or anything else involving the internet or cell towers, is stored in a DB somewhere owned by fascists. there are enough data points to cross reference that they pretty much know more about you than anyone in your life does. maybe more than you know about yourself

Yes and that is the only real saving grace, the capacity to record at what appears to be infinite fidelity is only really a destabilizing force until the ambitions of the surveillance apparatus exceeds the secretarial capacity to make sense of it at a geometric rate.

Kind of like an LLM decaying into slop...

Deploying a flying weapons platform domestically. Ouch. Time to break out the laser pointers

big floppy hats and juggalo make up is on order. (for the make up, widen or narrow the eyes, add dark lines along the jaw that create a false jawline, maybe include dots to mimic more eyes, etc,) Also wear baggy clothing because they're not just using facial recognition. gate recognition as well as other biometrics. wear black or dark clothing.

also it won't matter if you have your cell phone with you. Either put it in a faraday pouch or leave it behind (maybe consider getting a cheap burner for comms, that you can prepay with cash.). If you go the faraday route, the moment you take it out, it'll start broadcasting.

For recording... get a camera. a camcorder is one option. Another is a body camera (cheapos start at like 30 bucks on amazon.). Also remember that Video=Evidence, so if you see people about to do something they maybe shouldn't consider turning away, etc, as well as avoiding other protestor's faces. (especially if you push video up on the internet later. Blur those faces out.)

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The problem with body cameras or camcorders is that they can be confiscated.

You have to decide before going to the protests if it's more important for you to participate or more important to document. Each has its pros and cons and you might have the chance to do both, but you will need to prioritize one over the other when push literally comes to shove.

Decide your priorities and then adjust your OpSec accordingly.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

They can be.

hence the warning about video = evidence.

but that also goes both ways. If you're finding yourself in court under drummed up bullshit, and they happen to delete everything around the times they said you assaulted them... that's a big fucking red flag, and it's potentially exculpatory evidence. one may be tempted to get a camera that offloads through wifi or cell; but that's a data trail, so you have to be careful there. (use VPN to set up access, or however that works.)

all that's also true of cell phone video, etc.

Gait recognition*

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Also, wear a poncho, protects a bit from chemical cams powder and is provides a better body profile disguise

C'mon, 2A people. Get your rifles out and take that bad boy down. /s

How long before they arm them and use them for domestic strikes?

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

They're probably already armed, they're just waiting for the order

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I'm thinking that has happened before.

From it's publicly available spec sheet:

Performance and Weights: • Maximum Speed 240 knots (276 mph) • Service Ceiling Altitude 50,000 ft • Endurance 20 hours • Maximum Gross Weight 10,500 lbs

Seems like that would likely cause pilots and any remaining ATCs in the area ulcers. Especially if it wasn't following flight rules. I seem to recall that quite a few planes fly around the LA metro area.

In less than a week Los Angeles has turned into Los Santos. Stay safe everyone, mask up, look out for each other.

A technology built to genocide people, is coming back to hunt you.. History is amazing...

Abraham Karem was born in Baghdad, Iraq, to an Assyrian Jewish couple. His family moved to Israel in 1951, where he grew up. From an early age, he had an innate passion for aeronautics, and at the age of 14, he started building model aircraft. Karem is regarded as the founding father of UAV (drone) technology. He graduated as an aeronautical engineer from the Technion. He built his first drone during the Yom Kippur War for the Israeli Air Force. In the 1970s, he immigrated to the United States.

fly afterwards to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Does ICE have its own MQ-9s for the border?
