I'd rather that than people treating them like Skyrim Nords

No, no, sskkkandinavians are taken by elves when babies and replaced with logs pretending to be people

Are elves what white people wish they were so they weren't human like the browns and blacks? Rhetorical question.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago (2 children)

i think it's a twisted expression of their yearning not to be as evil as they are. alas.

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That also makes sense. But I do think it's also an artistic expression of their belief in white supremacy. A case of different strokes for different folks lol

if you actually look at where the concept of modern elves comes from (tolkien), they're a vision of unfallen man. so it's just a christian story.

Yeah and then the more modern take gets really weird. I mean even the original interpretation was always a bit odd to me but racial superiority mixing in always takes it to the next level.

at least a lot of post-tolkien writers put in that elves are insufferable as a society. even when their specific elf characters were awesome.

Yeah I love seeing that. It's even seeped into Japanese light novels and it was hilarious

If elves are Platonic idealized white people, does that make Fëanor's kinslaying actually kinda based since it's cracker-on-cracker violence?

You think "elves" are bad, wait till you hear about "Nordic" aliens

[–] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 6 points 5 days ago

Scandinavians are elves.

Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder. Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels. Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies. Elves are glamorous. They project glamour. Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment. Elves are terrific. They beget terror. The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning. No one ever said elves are nice. Elves are bad.
