The US House of representatives is preparing to vote next week on a resolution that would deem “Free Palestine” to be “an antisemitic slogan.”

If anybody votes against this, they’ll say they voted to support Colorado terrorist attack.

GOP Rep Introduces Resolution Labeling ‘Free Palestine’ Slogan as ‘Anti-Semitism’ - Activist Post (2025-06-15)

>> Colorado GOP Congressman Gabe Evans introduced a non-binding resolution on Friday that labels ‘Free Palestine’ as “an antisemitic slogan.” The bill seeks to limit immigration of people who oppose Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine and Tel Aviv’s genocidal onslaught in the besieged Gaza Strip. The bill is expected to be voted on some time next week.

The bill reads, “Whereas, while shouting ‘Free Palestine,’ an antisemitic slogan that calls for the destruction of the state of Israel and Jewish people, Mohammed Sabry Soliman attacked the peaceful demonstrators with homemade Molotov cocktails.”

Palestinian people are semetic.

Semetic does not exclusively mean Jewish.

In b4 someone brings scientific racism definitions of "semitic" thinking it's a good argument to agree with Nazis

Something something Congress shall make no law limiting speech.

[–] no_username@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

what about speech they don't like?

[–] Zuzak@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

The further they push, the more regular people will recognize it as insane.

Land of the REEEEE

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 10 points 1 day ago

This passes and those shitweasels will declare BLM is "an antiwhite slogan" and move to ban it the same way. Then test the waters for other things, like calling Yam Tits "Yam Tits"... Right to jail.

Guarantee this is what they're going for. Systematically destroying our freedoms.

🖕🤬🖕

more recent edit, i’m dumb the text does appear on the congress.gov version, here:
https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-resolution/485/text

i was looking at house.gov only….

~~edit: this resolution does not say “free palestine” is an antisemitic phrase anywhere… this tweet is a complete lie.
it is condemning the terrorist attack in Bolder… making a lot of dumb claims… but nope.~~

~~Whereas, while shouting ‘‘Free Palestine’’, Mohammed Sabry Soliman attacked the peaceful demonstrators with home-made Molotov cocktails;~~

~~that’s the only time it’s mentioned. it does say that the attack was antisemitism, rather than anti-genocide in israel… but that’s a pretty big leap. btw, all news articles link to this tweet instead of the actual bill….
/edit~~

that’s the first rule:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

[–] SanicHegehog@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If I’m not mistaken, these resolutions don’t have the force of law. Basically it’s just a glorified memo.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Designed to get people upset with dem reps that vote for it. They’ll get heat either way they vote, so the right call is to abstain. Though that would still inspire ire from the right, but whatevs.

It's not a "complete lie". We should be willing to fact check, but we must also be mindful not rush to jump to such harsh dismissals.

I don't know the reason for the discrepancy, but this is specifically from Congress.Gov House res. 485.

"Whereas, while shouting ``Free Palestine'', an antisemitic slogan that calls for the destruction of the state of Israel and the Jewish people, Mohammed Sabry Soliman attacked the peaceful demonstrators with homemade Molotov cocktails;"

Full text and link below.

Whereas, on June 1, 2025, Mohammed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national illegally in the United States, committed a terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, against marchers peacefully demonstrating in support of the release of hostages held captive by Hamas; **Whereas, while shouting Free Palestine'', an antisemitic slogan that calls for the destruction of the state of Israel and the Jewish people, Mohammed Sabry Soliman attacked the peaceful demonstrators with homemade Molotov cocktails;** Whereas Mohammed Sabry Soliman stated he planned the terrorist attack for more than a year, wanted to kill all Zionist people and wished they were all dead'', and would ``do it [conduct an attack] again''; Whereas the terrorist attack committed by Mohammed Sabry Soliman wounded at least 14 people who suffered burns and other injuries; Whereas, reportedly, at least one of the victims was a Holocaust survivor; Whereas Mohammed Sabry Soliman was issued a tourist visa to travel to the United States; Whereas Mohammed Sabry Soliman was admitted to the United States at Los Angeles International Airport on August 27, 2022; Whereas, one month after his arrival in the United States and seemingly in violation of the terms of his nonimmigrant visa, which required that he not intend to remain in the United States permanently, Mohammed Sabry Soliman filed an asylum application with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services; Whereas Mohammed Sabry Soliman failed to depart the United States prior to the expiration of his authorized period of stay pursuant to his visa; Whereas the case of Mohammed Sabry Soliman highlights the need to aggressively vet aliens who apply for visas to determine whether they endorse, espouse, promote, or support antisemitic terrorism or engage in other antisemitic or anti-American activity; Whereas the case of Mohammed Sabry Soliman demonstrates the dangers of not removing from the country aliens who fail to comply with the terms of their visas; Whereas Colorado is a sanctuary State that prohibits law enforcement and other government entities from sharing information about illegal aliens with Federal immigration authorities, prevents U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel from accessing certain public areas, and otherwise hinders immigration enforcement; and Whereas Colorado law enforcement officials have encountered Mohammed Sabry Soliman multiple times since 2022: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) condemns Mohammed Sabry Soliman and his antisemitic terrorist attack on peaceful demonstrators supporting the release of the hostages held by Hamas; (2) prays for the quick healing of the victims of Mohammed Sabry Soliman's antisemitic terrorist attack; (3) affirms that free and open communication between State and local law enforcement and their Federal counterparts remains the bedrock of public safety and is necessary in preventing terrorist attacks; and (4) expresses gratitude to law enforcement officers, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, for protecting the homeland.

you’re totally right… i shouldn’t rush to conclusions….
i was looking at house.gov, which is probably the first draft….
i guess when i see a tweet with screenshots of a pdf instead of a link to the bill, i get skeptical…

[–] TacoButtPlug@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Thank you for doing the legwork comrade.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

actually i was entirely wrong... the newer version on congress.gov does have that language...

[–] TacoButtPlug@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Deep... siggggh.

[–] IttihadChe@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

It's worth noting that they found either Newer or outdated information.

From my own search, direcly from the Congress.Gov page on HR485.

[–] faab64@freefree.ps 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

@xor how many law makers obey by that?

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

most, some don’t and then the courts will…
i mean, it’s blatantly unconstitutional.
i doubt the bill will pass, but a lot of insane bills get introduced all the time.

@faab64 @palestine@lemmy.ml @palestine@a.gup.pe
This shows Republicans and people in power are really scared of a movement of solidarity among their own people, and rightly so, imo; it can topple them.
(Angela Davis said Palestine was the litmus test.)

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 2 days ago

Palestine will be free!

Fuck fascists.

[–] lauha@lemmy.one 11 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Jews becoming Nazis and US playing on their side wasn't on my history classes bingo card of future events

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago

Tbf the "US siding with Nazis" part isn't extremely surprising

[–] IttihadChe@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Zionist ideology was around before Hitler even rose to power (Theodor Herzl is credited with founding of modern Zionism in the 1890s and he advocated relocation of Arabs and pushed "neglected soil" justifications) and the Nazis were specifically inspired by the US genocide of natives and jim crow.
