Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Despite having been the one to shoot and kill Ah Loo and wound Arturo, the yet unidentified No Kings “peacekeeper” was detained and released without charges after being questioned by police.

I know cops are incompetent but arresting one of the victims and letting the shooter go is fucking wild levels of incompetence

~~One of the victims was apparently preparing a mass shooting, and was, at the time, running toward the crowd with his weapon.~~

Idk if new information came to light I can't find, but that was a cop propagated rumor early on. I believe he was a known, legal carrier who provided security for previous protests. He was arrested for "brandishing" his legal rifle at a crowd after the chucklefucks already shot at him and he was running away.

At least afaik, if there's other evidence, sure. I'm skeptical though because the cops already lied about it twice.

when I first read that Gamboa was "preparing a mass shooting", it sounded plausible, since mass shootings are a regular occurrence in Amerikkka. Then I read about Gamboa's background, things started sounding fishy

Shit I didn't realize that, so this was literally just cops being cops

[–] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

It's understandable - cops constantly spew misinfo to muddy the waters because it works!

My understanding from what I’ve read and the video I saw was that he was open carrying completely legally and peacefully and did nothing to indicate he was gonna shoot anyone. Then the “peacekeeper” shot him and a bystander, killing the bystander

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

I didn't realize all of that, I got my info from the wrong source on this

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

we have too many "lone wolf" mass shooters for me to trust someone open carrying by himself anywhere near a crowd

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

you mean like cops, private security, and these "peacekeepers", right? I agree, they should be disarmed.

those groups are a different risk profile from the next rittenhouse but no i don't trust on-duty cops, off-duty cops, or mormons either.

There have been people in all black with rifles that looked exactly like Gamboa at numerous protests since 2020, especially in states like Utah and Texas where everyone has a gun. You're not wrong really but it's not that uncommon.

when I read about this originally that person was open carrying (but not otherwise problematic) the two "peacekeepers" started threatening him, he fled and so they fired into the crowd. Has anything new come out to support that the open carry guy was dangerous in anyway or is it just successive levels of whitewashing violent (pseudo)authorities?

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago

The video clip that was going around show the guy just walking by and not even interacting with the shooter when he leveled his pistol and started blasting, which caused the guy to run into the crowd.

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

I didn't realize that, no new info has come out, I just ate the wrong news on it

[–] Lenins_Sabocat@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This has been the constructed narrative, but I haven't seen proof, yet.

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I didn't realize it was a constructed narrative, my bad

[–] Lenins_Sabocat@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 days ago

No, it's fine. It's just that every article can't even follow a proper timeline of events. I've been waiting to see footage pop up or maybe hear an announcement from both side's lawyers.
