It was blown out of proportion for sure and tough to follow even at the time it was happening. Most of the deleted comments were from one user who kept making alt accounts to be incredibly insulting to people who were arguing against the changes, I'm not sure if mods figured out who it was for certain but I think it was someone who was banned here already. There was a lot of heated discussion but it doesn't seem like a massive deal overall and seems to have blown over by now.

Mods made c/counterpropaganda and c/gossip to theoretically replace the two tanks, but their purposes aren't super clear to people, basically dunk posts are now posted in c/slop.

I saw printouts of Trump's tweets on the dashboard of private security vehicles in 2020, I feel like it's been glossed over slightly how much he had a hand in inspiring violence from chuds at that time. There were dozens of missing people related to protests that got little coverage as well, it seems likely it was worse than we even realize.

In addition to the racist name, a statement that recieved a lot of backlash claimed it had 'white cishet man vibes', there was discussion behind the scenes about it with other instance admins, supposedly "part of a broader push to reduce misogyny on hexbear and lemmy in general." You can read all the struggle posts about it and still not understand the full reasoning. Top-down decisions to change site culture with no community input beforehand, and then conflicting reasons given for the changes.

I followed all the posts about it and didn't really care about the tanks themselves too much, but I don't think I'm alone in saying I don't trust or fully understand the decisions made.

With drone warfare continuously progressing, does anyone know a reason a one-way drone couldn't be used as an anti-air missile potentially?

You didn't kill her, I'm sure you only did what was necessary for her well-being. I'm sorry though, it's never easy to lose loved ones meow-hug

Don't presidents sometimes parden people posthumously? Dear lord the thought hadn't occured to me before

I'm certain that I read in some statement, I don't recall where, that the term gossip was chosen specifically because it was frivolous, to emphasize the frivolousness of the posts there. Now it's said that this is all about reclaiming the term for marginalized people?

Even before I made an account here from my old instance I would notice the user that always said 'Death to America' and saw your comments as exemplary posts of proper Hex Thought rat-salute-2

There would never be a show called Gossip Guys.

It's hard for me to convey how or why it's a gendered term but this statement is so true, good for pointing it out.

Exactly, I really think the use of the word in a new comm is unhelpful for the stated goals of 'reducing misogyny' and white cishet vibes. I suppose not everyone sees the term that way, truly all sorts of people do gossip, but the term itself has typically seemed to be used to reinforce societal misogyny in my view.

I don't recall who said it but wasn't the name gossip picked partly because they wanted to emphasize the frivolousness of the posts that would go there? Like they were begrudgingly maintaining part of the old dunk place but wanted to shame it. I agree, in my experience it has "effeminate" and frivolous connotations and is used in media to refer to what those clique-y and rude women do behind your back.
