As George Santos stares down an all but certain expulsion from Congress, the disgraced New York Republican came out swinging against his congressional colleagues, accusing some of having committed felonies and others of “getting drunk every night” while planning to sleep with lobbyists.

“Within the ranks of the United States Congress, there are felons galore,” Santos said during a grievance-filled, three-hour appearance on X Spaces Friday evening. “There’s people with all sorts of sheisty backgrounds, and all of a sudden, George Santos is the Mary Magdalene of the United States Congress.”

“If you want to expel me, I’ll wear it like a badge of honor,” he continued. “I’ll be the sixth expelled member of Congress.” (About this assertion, Santos is in fact correct.)

Given his track record, I'm kinda surprised he didn't claim that he's the literal, original Mary Magdalene.

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 5 points 11 months ago

He probably will next time he needs to raise some money.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Well, that’s his alter ego.

[-] Telorand@reddthat.com 26 points 11 months ago

But...Mary Magdalene was never expelled or excluded, except perhaps socially due to what church tradition (not historical consensus) says her profession was. And in fact, the fables hold that she was a part of the effort that founded the beginnings of Christianity.

Also, Mary wasn't recorded as a known confidence trickster.

So, weird parallel to draw with your own life, you lying sack of meat.

“Within the ranks of the United States Congress, there are felons galore”

Well, he's not wrong. And like Cawthorn telling us about the Republicans doing cocaine and having orgies, he's in a position to know.

[-] AutistoMephisto@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Yeah, but that's the thing. Everyone in the GOP already knew what Santos was about before he was even elected. They haven't told him shit. I have no doubt that it's actually worse that anything he's said, but I highly doubt he's going to take anyone down with him.

[-] TechyDad@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

On the flip side, I wonder if they've told him stuff, but kept actual physical proof away from him. Santos is a known liar so any claim he makes would be tainted with the doubt of "is this another Santos lie."

They could hide what they are doing in plain sight with people shaking their heads over "yet another Santos lie."

My understanding is that Boebert and him have grown close, since nobody else talks to them.

[-] TheJims@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

lol trump called himself Mandela… every republican is fucking delusional

[-] TorJansson@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Calling himself a Saint is a bit more whacky.

[-] Baphomet_The_Blasphemer@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Oh, is this what he meant? I just assumed he was calling himself a whore.

[-] TorJansson@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Mary Magdelene got erroneously mixed with two other Mary's (see her Wikipedia article if interested). One of them was a prostitute, not Magdalene.

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago

I have no idea what he means by being the Mary Magdalene of Congress, other than they are both commonly believed to be whores for money.

(Mary actually wasn't)

[-] nyahlathotep@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago

I think he's saying he's being slandered/libeled, like Mary Magdalene who wasn't a prostitute but was called one by the church or something. (I don't know if she was or wasn't one, I don't even know if she actually existed, I just know it's been alleged that it was a lie that she was a prostitute)

The last person expelled from the house became a Far Right stooge and helped incept the Tea Party Movement after Obama became president. Traficant was a massive shitbag and so is Santos.

[-] Wrench@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

The funny thing is, his last probably would have looked the other way if it was just fraud and misuse of compassion funds. It was the cross dressing that doomed him

[-] Davel23@kbin.social 9 points 11 months ago

What's with the guy with the Simple Jack haircut behind him?

[-] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago

"Never go full retard." - A Lead Farmer Motherfucker.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

I guess he's not "Jew-ish" anymore.

[-] jaschen@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 11 months ago

This will help free up his time to become the Vice President.

[-] frickineh@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

I would contribute to a gofundme to pay someone to slap this man. I wonder if he knows he's unbelievably annoying or if he actually buys into his own bullshit and thinks he's somehow a victim.

[-] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Narcissists tend to genuinely think they're the ones being wronged. It's a personality disorder that fucks someone's entire perspective.

[-] reddig33@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

George, having a friend named Heyseuss doesn’t make you a religious figure.

[-] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

We'll need receipts for any kompromat he has due to his track record of Trump-level lying.

[-] ATDA@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

They don't like me because I'm an outsider.

MF people don't even know who you are to like you...????

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago

Is it me or are his eyes pink af in that photo? Weird exposure or adjustment maybe? Or, you know, the other thing.

[-] kiljoy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 months ago

Cool beans bro I could have told you that. You gotta name them.

[-] andrew@lemmy.stuart.fun 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Santos does mean saints/holy ones. But that's about as close as he'll likely ever get to sainthood.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

Fake News! George Santos was, in fact, not only a Saint, but was Drew Brees' backup on that Saints team that won the Super Bowl in 2009

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 1 points 11 months ago

Well, he’s not wrong. He’s still a lying, projecting criminal, but Congress is filthy.

[-] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

All I know is I want to see Santos and DeSantis on the ring. That rings closer to home than some bs biblical references.
