It will be interesting to see if Disney will stand by him or if they will replace him. They may not be willing to wait for a year to film any scenes they want Kang to be in and they replaced Terrence Howard.

According to news reports, he's already been fired/released.
Johnny Depp got pulled from the Pirates series didn't he? That seemed to be murkier but also higher profile. They also fired James Gunn. I think it depends heavily on behind the scenes conversions. Maybe mandated counseling or something. A lot of people have gotten second chances. Gina Carano got canned but they tried pretty hard not to until it became clear she wouldn't shut up. I think JM has been laying relatively low.
I could see it going either way, but I've heard they've changed course on some of the plotting to reduce the importance of Kang.
James Gunn and Gina Carano are very interesting opposite scenarios.
James Gunn was basically a hit piece before getting canned by one person superseding everyone else and eventually reinstated when everyone settled down.
Gina just made a target out of herself and got to keep her job because of one person vouching for her and eventually she was fired when she made it clear she wasn't going to stop.
Truth is each instance is different and the people deciding are different each time.
James Gunn being an edgelord dipshit when he was younger was already known. He owned up to it when he was attacked and he had already previously owned up to it and put the effort in to "do better" as it were for years by that point. This is why the cast and crew as well as people all throughout hollywood came to his defense.
Gunn's firing is basically the ultimate counter to "Do one bad thing and people will ruin your life for it". he did a lot of bad shit but he had demonstrated he was not the same person saying that stupid shit and people defended him for it. It is the same reason that Robert Downey Jr has had such a massive career resurgence after his troubled years.
Johnny Depp got pulled from the Pirates series didn’t he
Didn't they stop making them before everything started coming out about him? And getting rid of people like James Gunn and John Lassiter work more for Disney because they work behind the scenes. They are more replaceable. But like I said, they didn't seem to mind replacing Terrence Howard. And Don Cheadle is a better actor anyway, so it worked out pretty well.
Terrance Howard also priced himself out. That was as much his decision as Disney's. I don't know. I guess we'll find out soon. I like JM as an actor but these allegations can blow back on companies seen as taking the wrong side, and here he was found guilty. There are some really hard conversations going on behind the scenes, for sure.
Allegedly Disney never made it clear that they reduced his role. So he was negotiating based on old info. No idea how accurate that is though.
Terrence Howard wasn't the focus of an entire phase the way Majors is/was supposed to be. A sidekick is a lot easier to replace than a big-bad who's already been in several franchise pieces.
In Depp's case there wasn't a lot of nuance. He was a victim but also the bad guy, he and Heard were both the villains.
You're right they were in a mutually destructive relationship. Probably best to get as far away from both as possible. But god damn team Johnny vs team Amber was the hot story for about five fucking minutes. That was a firecracker at the time.
My understanding is their fallback plan is to bring in Dr Doom as the big bad rather than recasting Kang.
That's just rumors.
I’m very pleased. Been following this since the original arrest and his defense was engaging in some shockingly vile behavior trying to discredit the victim.
The man is trash and, after what I’m sure will be an entertaining downfall, I’m looking forward to forgetting he existed. I know there is some fear that he will overcome this, but I would be shocked if he ever had a single major role again— he was dropped by multiple parties pre conviction and others he worked with called him cruel and abusive (imagine how awful you’d have to be for a director, who you know professionally, to say that). I’ll try to remember this comment if he ever rebounds and return to admit I was wrong and lament the state of Hollywood, but I would bet against it.
Until then, may he and his team have a miserable time filled with regret.
Disney has fired him and removed him for all Marvel related projects.
Saw a thing saying he's already been shitcanned as kang the conquer. Assuming that's not Internet click bate bullshit. That aline should hurt his bank book plans
Yeah it is Disney after all, wouldn't surprise me. Honestly that character sucks anyway.
It's funny I was interested in the character. I wasn't really into action comics but was aware enough of the infinity saga. Was looking forward to a big bad I knew nothing about.
Then the last half dozen or so movies ~~dropped~~ bombed
Nothing but rumors so far. Lots of unfounded rumors.
Disney might hire him back.
So I tried to look up the difference between assault and reckless assault in NY, and according to this: https://www.nycourts.gov/judges/cji/2-PenalLaw/120/120-00%282%29.pdf it makes it seem more like "led to a situation that caused injury" which feels very light and isn't the depiction of him hitting her and breaking her finger as is kind of presented. I think you could argue this means he didn't go out of his way to assault her, but in the mess accidentally created a situation that led to an injury, likely when pushing her back into the car. That's messy; "Guilty of reckless assault" is pretty concise and Disney won't want that heat, but it sounds like the verdict is more nuanced and there's a case that it was semi-accidental in a messy situation? If the rumors of Majors having a bunch of things in his contract about not recasting are true, this could be an extremely messy situation for Disney if they want to sever, but Majors counters the severance from the morality clause on the nuance and details.
The reality is that domestic abuse, much like rape, is incredibly difficult to prove. Because it isn't happening in the wide open. And, even when it does, there is a lot of argument of "That is just how we are" which tends to go well with the character assassination defense.
So, likely, the jury was only able to come to a conclusion on what was recorded or directly corroborated by witnesses and ignored anything that happened behind closed doors.
