LG: It's a pretentious box with a lens.

[-] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 8 months ago

They could have done so much with it, instead they made an ammo box with a lens on it

Saw the ads for this one and then saw it’s only 500 lumens. Hope you like watching your crazy expensive projector in a perfectly dark room where no one else will see its “style”.

...that's a pencil sharpener.

[-] scorpious@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Should totally keep a cup of pencils next to it.

Okay, but can we get a "LG says its new phone is an 'epic comeback'"?

Is this an ad for a subpar, dim, normal throw projector in a shiny box?

Ah yes, a "stylish art object".
Looks like these:

Kinda looks like an automatic air freshener combined with a womens razor

Those are Chinese medical cum harvesters. Incidentally, how's your mom's job hunt going?

[-] JackFrostNCola@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

She says AI and machines took er jerb, but im sure she will tell you all about it tonight

Hard to converse with a ball gag in my mouth and she charges by the minute. I can't afford the luxury of a sentence more than the 2 minutes I need of her company.

[-] JackFrostNCola@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Ill tell her to think of bringing in a loyalty card system so you get a freebie occasionally, probably everly 13th free, a traditional wankers dozen.

That's be great! My Iphone 4s isn't compatible with her app, so I have really been missing out on promotions.

[-] JackFrostNCola@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Thats strange, everything else she does is backwards compatible.

And it's a useless toy compared to my 1 k$ ceiling mounted white Epson.

[-] Amphobet@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 8 months ago

So it's pronounced "kwoob," right?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

LG announced the CineBeam Qube (model HU710PB) laser projector yesterday: It’s got a minimalist look and stature, weighing 3.28 pounds and measuring 135mm square on one side and just 80mm wide at the front.

It also has an unspecified number of HDMI eARC and USB-C ports, and a 3W built-in mono speaker.

Impressively, LG says it can project an up-to-120-inch image at full 4K resolution with a pretty standard 1.2 throw ratio.

The Qube uses the company’s webOS, which is fine taken on its own as an OS, but lacks the diversity of Google TV or Apple’s tvOS.

It looks a little like a cross between the Binomes from the 90s CGI cartoon ReBoot and the hand-cranked Bell & Howell 8mm camera that floated around my house growing up.

And while I usually recoil at companies describing their devices with terms like “stylish interior accessory,” I have to admit the Qube calls to me, as a person who is willing to forgive the flaws of quirky, boxy tech that has a handle — like the GameCube, for instance.

  • "Show the movie LG"
  • "I'm sorry dave, I cannot play 'Harry.Potter.and.the.Deathly.Hallows.Part.2.2011.2160p.MAX.WEB-D.mkv'"
  • "Dammit LG, show the movie!"
  • "I think this conversation has no other purpose, good bye dave"

Why are upvoting ads?

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Reminds me of a brownie camera.

When I was in uni I bought a projector for my room. Best thing I ever bought.

Just put it on my bedside table and used it to watch movies on the white wall either alone or with the FB. Even took it downstairs and on the old console played split screen COD with the housemates. It was awesome.

But that was 10 years ago now and TV tech has moved on. Most people have a huge TV that gives pretty much the same size as what screen I was protecting but much clearer, and they also don't live in a shitty uni room with no space for a TV stand and no walls mounts.

The projector had its short window of being the right solution but I think a lot of people missed it and now a TV is almost always the right option.
