It was soon revealed that Russia wouldn't be invited to this conference

What do they hope to accomplish?

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 43 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Zelensky tells press conference: Our teams start from tomorrow on plans to hold a global peace conference in Switzerland

It is critical that work continues on methods used by Russia to bypass sanctions

We would want countries of the global south to be present at peace conference

We are open to all countries that respect our sovereignty and territorial integrity at peace summit

We would want China to be involved in our peace formula

Apparently they are trying to beg global south including China to 180 their position for no reason and become fellow compradors to USA.

It almost made a certain kind of sense when they thought their offensive would succeed. Like they'd brow beat Russia and then demand surrender on their terms, and countries supporting Russia would have no choice but to go along. However, now that their army is being crushed and western support is collapsing, this is just a complete farce.

War is peace.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 37 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Peace talks without Russia? With hopes of countries in the Global South and China to participate? This is just more lip service, no peace will ever come from this if the opposition is not present. I doubt the Global South and China will want to waste their time with this shit.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I think it's pretty likely that there will be a military coup at some point and then actual negotiations on the terms of surrender will start.

[–] ExotiqueMatter@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The problem is who will coup them? The fascists depleated themselves pretty badly on one hand but surely part of all the weapons that disapeared has gonne to them, so supposedly they are armed with war grade weaponery. There is probably widespread anti-war sentiment among the people, so the coup could come from some kind of popular movement who want the war to end, but who would lead it? The communist party or a popular front containing them? Do they currently have the ability to do that? I'm sure they could agitate and recrute pretty fast under these circumstances but them being an illegal party and the leaders being in prison make it difficult I suppose.

I don't know much about the political situation in Ukraine so those are just suppositions.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I would expect it would be the military that will coup the civilian government once they realize that the war is lost. Most of the ideologically aligned and motivated people are dead at this point. So, the morale within the military is pretty low, and the understanding that they're just being used as cannon fodder for NATO is sinking in. I don't think there's any chance of communists getting in power there. What's most likely is that Russia will install a puppet regime as part of the terms of surrender.

What's most likely is that Russia will install a puppet regime as part of the terms of surrender.

I remember reading in some Western newspaper that Russia wanted an interim government with Viktor Yanukovych as its leader. But I doubt that this was more than just anti-Russian propaganda. I believe Yanukovych is unpopular in Ukraine, and if they had a plan to set up a puppet government, it would probably just be a pro-Russian general.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 10 months ago

Exactly, it's almost certainly going to be somebody from the military.

[–] 201dberg@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (3 children)

I'm wondering if Zelensky is trying to escape before some bullets find their way into his head.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 10 months ago

I'd be surprised if he wasn't looking for a way out at this point. It's pretty clear that the whole house of cards is going to collapse any day now.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 10 months ago

If he is then I’m sure the Canadian government already has a nice mansion set up for him in Ottawa.

[–] GiantSpoonWielder@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 10 months ago

I don't need bullets; I need a CIA funded retirement in a US client state.

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 36 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Lol. Imagine thinking you can have a peace conference that doesn't include the winning side. Yet another stunt just like the last failed "peace conference" aka West+vassals get together for a circlejerk. I expect even less of the global south to attend this one.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 10 months ago (1 children)

it's really becoming a joke at this point

[–] polskilumalo@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Fair, it's been a farce all along, but now it's getting to the point where even people in the mainstream are starting to realize it.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It was a pretty bloody farce though.

[–] Idliketothinkimsmart@lemmygrad.ml 36 points 10 months ago

Of course the cockroaches come crawling back to China after they spit on the 12 point peace proposal that China put forward last year.

[–] Addfwyn@lemmygrad.ml 35 points 10 months ago (1 children)

If Russia isn't there, I don't see the point.

I suppose they could be checking with their owners if they would be allowed to surrender/negotiate with Russia. In which case the answer is probably no.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I think it's mostly a vibe check for the owners.

[–] jackmarxist@hexbear.net 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Bro should've held it before the Israeli genocide. Now the west and Ukraine have burnt bridges with the Islamic world, already pissed China off and are demonising India and south Africa. He's probably going to get lectured by someone.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 10 months ago

I get the impression these people just live in an alternate reality.

[–] MelaniaTrump@hexbear.net 32 points 10 months ago (2 children)

America spent how much to lose this war? lmao

Israel next pls

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 19 points 10 months ago

We made a bunch of money selling weapons that were about to expire and then made a clean exotic and left that idiot holding the bag.

Pretty sure every foreign policy ghoul considers this war a huge success.

And besides liberals are just going to react to anybody saying ukraine lost like chuds react to Vietnam and make up excuses for why we weren't allowed to win.

[–] Kaplya@hexbear.net 13 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

The billions of dollars spent in Ukraine by the Federal Government are “recycled” back to the politicians and private corporations in America. The banks, institutional investors, oil and gas companies, military industrial complex all made a huge tons of money from the government spending there. Same with the billions of dollars spent in Israel.

[–] jlyws123@lemmygrad.ml 30 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Zelensky really thinks he is the president of the earth?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 10 months ago

all that coke isn't good for the brain

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago

Bro is still high on the propaganda blitz portraying him as the liberal messiah western media gave him a year ago.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 34 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

ugh, didn't check the date on the TASS link. There is apparently a new proposal, but the only western source I could find is the daily mail which I didn't want to link to https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12965767/President-Zelensky-asks-Switzerland-organise-high-level-peace-conference.html

edit: ok, looks like there's one from forex now https://www.forexlive.com/news/ukraine-has-asked-switzerland-to-organize-a-high-level-peace-conference-20240115/

although, it looks like it's a farce after all as they're evidently not inviting Russia

[–] voight@hexbear.net 17 points 10 months ago

That makes sense. This happens when I share slightly broken Invidious links or bad copies of songs while listening to downloaded music

[–] D61@hexbear.net 29 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Hopefully the USA will be too busy elsewhere to fuck this up again?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 30 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I get the impression that the US is starting to run into physical limits of what it can do to keep the war going at this point.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The myth of the USofA has been slamming into reality for so long that its starting to crumble.

[–] SadArtemis@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 10 months ago

Here's hoping their "thousand year reich" doesn't even make it to a quarter of a millennia before crumbling entirely.

[–] ExotiqueMatter@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

At this point even the nazi puppets have to be desilusionned with the US don't they?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 10 months ago

I think it's slowly starting to sink in that US is going to discard them like a used condom.

[–] kig_v2@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 10 months ago

ITS SO MKTHERFUCKIN JOEVER

[–] SexMachineStalin@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Meanwhile ZelensKKKy going around :estonia-burning:, giving jagoff to MPs in the national assembly for over €300M per annum in weapons, as the prices of everything creeps up, except the wages.

Death to America

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 10 months ago

I think it's funny how he's reduced to begging the Baltic states now because nobody in western Europe wants to see him. Not like Baltics have anything to give.

[–] American_Communist22@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

how do you not invite the other side to your peace talks? what are they gonna do? Cry about how hard they lost?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Recent pics of Zelensky suggest that he is indeed doing a lot of crying lately.

[–] American_Communist22@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

that car shot is going on my wall fucking lmao
