!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

There are a lot of communities across the fediverse based off of r/196, where the only rule is that you have to post something before leaving. I ended up blocking most of those communities because of the spam.

[–] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Surprised I'm not banned from there, Ive commented on posts from those communitues multiple times before and never once posted

[–] loke@fedia.io 2 points 1 year ago

I accidentally subscribed to it, and since I get a 500 error every time I try to visit it (problem with fedia.io I think) I cannot unsubscribe.

It's kind of annoying.

[–] wetnoodle@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 1 year ago (6 children)

it's a trend from the community 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone idk why it's spreading other than that is a very quickly growing community

[–] DevCat@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The rule in 196 is that once you've visited, you must post before leaving. Thus, the title suffix "rule".

[–] Monkeyhog@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I'd like to see them make me. Fuck them and their "rule"

[–] yunggwailo@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

got a real badass over here lol

[–] zalack@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

But I can make you lose the game.

[–] EnglishMobster@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

(Psst... a lot of people broke the rule.)

It was also supposed to only apply if you explicitly went to the subreddit. If you just saw a post in your feed you didn't have to make a post yourself.

But the rule makes the community very very active in a place where there's otherwise not much activity.

I once visited that sub (to block it) and didn't post when I left. Faced no consequences believe it or not.

[–] primul@vlemmy.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

first community i’ve blocked here since making my account. god, that spam, ugh…

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Same. 196 was giving me cringe headaches.

[–] lp0101@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It's got one good meme for every 10 shit ones, so every time I'm about to block it I reconsider

/r/196 was a popular sub on Reddit, about 500k subscribers. A lot of them were dedicated users who were very active and had recognizable usernames.

196 was one of the first major subs to shut down and point everyone to the fediverse. It helps that 196 was very LGBTQ-friendly and Blahaj.zone is also very explicitly LGBTQ-friendly, so it was a good match.

196 creates a lot of content because their "rule" was anytime you visited the sub you had to leave an image, whether it was a repost or not. This also works very well for a nascent fediverse where not a lot of OC is being made yet.

Thus 196 was pretty much in the perfect position to become one of the biggest places on the fediverse.

I think they're still down? Not sure, can't check any more. They were my favorite subreddit, so I've been submitting a few posts to the community here also.

[–] EnglishMobster@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Yes, they are still in restricted (read-only) mode and redirecting here.

[–] wetnoodle@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

also I did not link that right idk how to link properly yet 😕

[–] themadcodger@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Across the fediverse if you stick an @ in front of the 196 it'll work. Lemmy has a thing where they do an ! instead, but that's specifically their thing.

Works with usernames too.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks! This was the info that I needed to block them myself. First block on Lemmy.

[–] Mewtwo@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago (3 children)

The 196 and 195 communities have only 1 rule. If you visit the community, you must post.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There’s nothing to stop anyone from not doing it.

[–] zalack@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Yes there is. That would be against the rules. Duh.

[–] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 3 points 1 year ago

Eh rules are made to be broken.

[–] zkikiz@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 year ago

(and usually, use the word "rule" in the title)

[–] Soullioness@atosoul.asuscomm.com 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I personally blocked those communities. They just took up too much of my feed with low quality content.

[–] Knightfall@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

I'm thinking of doing the same. I'll wait to see if it calms down after the wave of users from Reddit.

[–] Willer@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago
[–] LostCause@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

196, I like that community and seen a lot of fun stuff there, but I can see how it could be too spammy for some.

[–] mrnotoriousman@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Content has been slowly increasing but my first few days were 99% 196 and German posts until I blocked those communities haha

[–] Roundcat@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The front page is still very broken here on Lemmy and kbin. If a community is very active, it will show you nearly every post from that community. Depending on what time of day I log on, all the posts will be in German.

[–] AssA@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Das liegt bestimmt nur an deinen Spracheinstellungen. Vllt musst du da Mal angelsächsisch einstellen oder so.

[–] Xeelee@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Das ist doch mal eine gute Gelegenheit, eine wunderschöne neue Sprache zu lernen!

[–] Wander@yiffit.net 0 points 1 year ago

It's a sort of game.
