Has anyone had luck using 3rd party Toner with their Brother printer in the last year? I know the firmware has changed in the last few years to prevent this, but I am wondering if 3rd party manufacturers have managed to circumvent the firmware changes.

Not what you asked, but I'm somewhat okay with supporting Brother. They make good hardware, and don't do extremely anti-consumer things like have the toner or ink be locked to one printer/fax machine, sell your data, or force you to pay for supplies whether you use them or not... I know it's a low bar these days.

I would bet you're fine. I sold printers for a while and brother generally didn't get up to that kind of nonsense. Don't know for sure though.

Recently they've started intentionally reducing print quality with third party toners.
