Tbh my solution thus far has been just not caring. Celebrity culture is annoying; and the people who care about it are annoying too. I don't care about the Kardashians or whoever and their lives, mine is made measurably better by not paying attention to theirs. Hence why I just pretend to be a celebrity denier, denying celebrities exist. It's a funny bit and it highlights my apathetic attitude towards them. Primarily because I get my entertainment and art from the sources I endlessly peruse for unpopular (read: extremely small) creators. tbh life this way is amazing. I really wish people who care about celebrity culture would stop being as judgemental as I've found them to be regarding what I like when it comes to how niche I like stuff.

[–] Canadian_Cabinet@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I assume we're not talking about this Bat Boy, right?

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago

That is cursed

[–] minibyte@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 months ago

When you walk away from celebrity culture you’re free to define what success looks like for you, instead of being told what success is and blindly chasing that.

That’s a brilliant mindset.

Nothing to see here. 🫥

That’s so mid!

(I’m 43 am I gonna go to cool jail) (Do they have skippy-dippy toilets there or the regular ones)

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 47 points 5 months ago (4 children)

It's SKIBIDY TOILET you old fart.

I'm 42, so technically younger than you.

[–] Jimbo@yiffit.net 20 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I'm positively a baby in comparison at 27 and I'm still lost on these memes

[–] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Well that's because you're too young!

Skibidi is something Scatman John said back in the 90s

[–] ellen@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Makes sense, it would be a Scatman starting a toilet meme, wouldn't it?

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

I wish I didn't understand this

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 months ago
[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

That's cuz you didn't have kids at 15 and would otherwise have. 12;year old to expose you to them. Gen A is weird man

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

Y'all are some cool geezers, hope I end up close to your retirement homes

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm 41 and ALSO tragically unhip! Even my way of saying it is devastatingly passé!

We should get some kind of coincidence trophy for our confluence of ages, though..

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 months ago

Yeah, I got some skibidy rizz for sure. LoL

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 5 months ago

I'm upset that I understand all of these words, especially the last one.

[–] bestagon@lemmy.world 23 points 5 months ago (1 children)

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Wow, in which country do you retire at 50??? I need to know!!!!

[–] Dasnap@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

By 'retired' they mean 'made redundant and failing to find other work'.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

Ageism in the workforce is definitely a thing

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 21 points 5 months ago

Always has been.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.world 19 points 5 months ago

95% of celebrity news has always been that meaningless. It isn't an age thing, as even when I understand the headlines, they just aren't important. Even if I'm interested in what the celebrity is up to because I like their work, those stories are about inane bullshit that doesn't even matter to the celebrity themselves.

The important news happens irregularly and outside of their control, so the news companies create trash to pad dull moments in between. The same is true with all news, as important shit gets passed over to boost filler for more profitable topics. I often see nothing important on news websites, only to find seriously important stories from those same websites buried under the trash from third-parties.

There are gruntflips reported on at all levels. It isn't really new anywhere.

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 15 points 5 months ago

I'm 37 and it has looked like this to me for some time.

[–] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 12 points 5 months ago

Gruntflip sounds dangerously close to cuntflap.

Anyway I'm about to turn 30, but it's not like I was ever one of the cool kids. As a teen/young adult I was a dork. (still am, it's just that when you're an adult no one gives a shit)

So I've instead been watching the evolution of the inscrutable language of young people from afar for a very, VERY long time.

[–] hypeerror@sh.itjust.works 11 points 5 months ago

From what I understand, they Skibidi in toilets now.

[–] beefbot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 5 months ago

[–] BurnedDonut@ani.social 6 points 5 months ago

I'm 50 and I don't follow any news. I have limited time left can't be bothered to spend it away worrying or feeling sorry about unfortunate events.
