Imagine if some distance measuring system decided their zero was at like 10 feet.

"One haircut, please."

This is wild.

Thank you for this comment. I wanted to reply but didn't want to add too many personal details, or get into a big argument about it.

In a perfect world, yes, but it's not always easy to change plans at the last minute.

My first thought too, but it didn't work in this case - even opening the link on my PC told me to install the app.

Luckily I found that just replying "yes" to the message worked.

update - after doing some research online, I found I was able to just reply to the text message with "yes" and it confirmed the reservation.

It's hard to beat Obra Dinn, but The Witness is another of my favorite puzzle games.

Edit: "hard to beat" meaning it's a good game, not that it's difficult (although it is in fact pretty difficult).

This comment is more effort than the person you're responding to was going to put into the game.

What's the black thing on the left, in front of the building?

Me: I need some tires.

Michelin: No problem, anything else?

Me: I don't suppose you know where I can get a list of the best restaurants in the world?

Michelin: You're not gonna believe this.

They can put a few bones in, as a treat.

I got absurdly lucky in the early game and got a negative Ballot and a Triboulet, along with Spare Trousers and some other decent jokers. I worked on getting more kings and queens and building up the trousers. Then I got to The Needle, went through all my discards without getting a pair of kings or queens, and lost. Sad thing is I had Director's Cut, but I'd been beating every blind in one hand so I thought it was a sure thing.

Just wanted to rant a bit.

I'm a mod of !communitytv@lemmy.world, although my user is on discuss.tchncs.de. I mainly asked to be made a mod to remove an old sticky post, but I've seen it come back after unfeaturing it a couple of times. Today I tried to unfeature it again, about an hour ago. Currently it does not show up as featured on my instance, but it still does on lemmy.world. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is the post in question on each instance:

GQ: My final question is annoying, and I apologize in advance, but it would be an abdication of my duties not to ask for an update on the Community movie.

Joel McHale: Oh, well, it hasn't been shot yet. It will be. And I don't have a definitive update because we thought for a moment it was going to all happen this year, and then it didn't. But we have the money, and that is a huge step. And hopefully, people still want to see it. And Peacock's paying for it. And so I can't wait to do it. I'll say vaguely next year. How about that?

Back in school I heard the story that Haydn wrote the "Surprise Symphony" because he was sick of people sleeping through his music, and wanted to startle them awake. It seems like this was a myth.

From the Wikipedia article:

In Haydn's old age, his biographer Georg August Griesinger asked him whether he wrote this "surprise" to awaken the audience. Haydn replied:

No, but I was interested in surprising the public with something new...

Why do all the cool stories from history end up being made up?

I was never able to pull off Obelisk before, but I had the perfect setup this time - the deck was mostly diamonds and clubs, and I got an early flush joker so I was playing nothing but flushes anyway when Obelisk showed up. Got up to 12 flushes before starting to play other hands.
