As with every other "crisis" capitalism faces, the solution is simple: no more capitalism, no more crisis.

“A reduction in the share of workers can lead to labor shortages, which may raise the bargaining power of employees and lift wages — all of which is ultimately inflationary,” Simona Paravani-Mellinghoff, managing director at BlackRock, wrote in an analysis last year.

Yeah, fuck that babbling bourgeois bullshit. Fun fact though, after plague killed so many people in Europe, the surviving serfs (and their more immediate descendants) had an unprecedented level of power and agency over their living and working conditions.

I also love how the whole hand wringing they've been doing about China's supposed demographics problems turned out to be pure projection once again.

[–] knfrmity@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The irony being that China has the tools to overcome a declining population, whereas the west is a goldbergian paperclip maximizer.

[–] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 34 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Actually the serf seeing his father dying from the plague said "ah shit this will be ultimately inflationary."

Would be a good comedy bit, much like the opening to Monty Python's Holy Grail.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 20 points 4 months ago

Nono, the solutions is more guns and prisons as usual obviously

Hold up I thought the third world was "overpopulated" and having too many children.

[–] landlords_morghulis@lemmygrad.ml 36 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's overpopulated when the west talks about Africa, India, China, Mexico and the poors. It's underpopulated when it talks about suburban white people who buy iphones.

"But also, they can't move here."

[–] JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 4 months ago

Sounds like I can smell a hint of racism.

very much this. there are plenty of studies that shows a direct correlation between icreasing economic difficulties and birth rate fall in europe (and is super evident for example in france where the dismantle of the wellfare state last 15 years drop birth rate from 2.8 to 1.9 in same amount of years, process being more strong during the "Macron era").
Of course this does not applies to a lot of countries that are not in good economic shape (in the global south) because in those countries neoliberalism and the massive individualisation of society is just present in the upper statements, while the popular classes still rely in its community, also for reproduction.

"Sorry sperm, you gotta move aside for all this micro plastics I gotta store in my balls now."

[–] JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 4 months ago (1 children)

In all seriousness, this shit is just proof overpopulation is a myth.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What they really mean is that they want more white people to have kids.

[–] JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I can see an argument for that.

[–] JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I can see a hint of racism when westoids worry about fertility rates.

[–] redtea@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 months ago

I thought you meant that. Just so you know, 'I can see an argument for that' usually suggests that you agree with the initial statement. It's like saying, 'I could also make an argument in support of that statement'.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 4 months ago

Having less children is not necessarily a bad thing, and I don't care that it impacts the economy. Although it's bad that people can't afford to get more children because of economic pressure on their families.

The families of Western European diaspora gain their success through their property ownership, 'natural' park from ongoing land thief, child slaves in Indian Residential fake Schools that continued in secret after 1996, and stolen inheritance from abducted Indigenous children in the fake cultural assimilation projects. I cannot understand why the white supremacists and Nazis demand more childbirth from white people who depend completely in free riding of people in other racial castes and property ownership for their survival. Do those racist white supremacists want to breed more parasites who would destroy the civilization of Western European diaspora? The elites of Western European diaspora who broke their promised to give their position to Aboriginal children in Residential fake school in the fake cultural assimilation project had now decided to discard their rural subjects into poverty and import tons of formerly colonized people to sustain European parasitic civilization. Although some immigrant of colors come legally with human right protection[,] others were displaced from wars and repressive puppet tyrants that Pax Americana created so the refugees need to come [as] undocumented slaves who work in high dangerous conditions with the promise to gain citizenship in the country of free riders.

Well put, for these reasons honestly I can't ever see the diminishing of the white, western demographics as a bad thing. They're not "racially inferior" or whatnot- hell, my partner is white- but statistically speaking, culturally speaking, within the world system and particularly the settler-regimes and imperial cores they have created, they are more likely to be reactionary and opposed to equality than other groups as I see it.

Until white supremacy and imperialism are completely eradicated as global systems and social diseases, I think that'll be just how it is. Of course, white individuals like anyone else should be judged by their own personal merits- but as a "race" (the system they created), as a separate group (for all that whiteness is incredibly arbitrary) it'll take a long time and a lot of changes to return them, and the nations/regions that make up the imperial core as well, to come back down to earth with the rest of the world IMO (not to say "humanity was united before the cracker nations attacked," but the scars they have left are certainly the most egregious, widespread, and deep of them all IMO).

The Soviets and the Warsaw Pact strike me as the only group amongst the west to truly try to mend that divide (and the crimes and resulting social corruption of the Russian/eastern European nations was always far, far, far lesser than that of the west Europeans). And even then, so much was undone with their collapse- as I see it even, I'd argue that- while not the primary reason, their whiteness- and thus the ambitions of certain elements of society, to "rejoin the white, western, imperialist bloc," etc- played a role undermining the union to begin with.

the world isn’t having enough babies

I thought it was overpopulated. What happened guys? Love naive liberal understandings of the world.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 4 months ago
